I like puzzle games like Portal and was recommended Inside as a similar experience. It basically revolves around controlling a young boy as he infiltrates the laboratory of a shady corporation, solving various environment and physics based challenges along the way.
I've just finished (it's not very long) and have never played such a simple but beautifully designed and thought out game. On the face of it the graphics appear to be quite basic but the more you play the greater you appreciate their 'less is more' aesthetic and the focus this puts on the puzzling aspects.
That's it really, thought some of the gamers on here may have played it.
Yes I really enjoyed it.
Another game you might like is far lone sails, really really good.

Inside is great - short though. Try Limbo if you liked that.
Limbo is on order Martin, looking forward to it (now also checking out Lone Sails, thanks for the recommendation).
Limbo and Inside are by the same dev, if you're not aware.
It's an older game but stick Braid on your radar also.
yes both limbo and inside are good games. currently enjoying spelunky 2 for puzzles and funny deaths
Yeah inside has the most amazing atmosphere and tension, great game and the ending is properly out there.
Reminds me of the Portal games in the way the gameplay is pretty simple but then clever world building takes it to the next level.
Glad I put my head above the parapet, looks like I have a fair few evenings of puzzle gaming to look forward to. My other recommendation would be Qube 2, the closest game I've played to Portal.
Hatter, have to agree with you about the ending. My wife found me just staring at the screen with a confused look on my face. I'd tried to explain what had just happened but, as you know, you have to be there.
I take it you've done portal 2? One of the greatest and funniest games ever.
bookmarking for future reference
Oh most certainly Martin, it's the one that got me into these type of games in the first place, a stone cold classic (I so wish they'd bring out number 3).
Just to add, 'the Stanley Parable' I thought was very good as well.
Try not to read too much about it, as it will spoil it, just play it and experience it... it's very novel.

I've not played it, but just tripped over this (on offer) and it looks good:

Both proper excellent indie games.. another few suggestions in the same vein but all with wildly different premises..
The Talos Principle as mentioned above is also excellent (even better in VR!!)

You'll definately like The Fall and The Swapper in that case.!! 😉
I so wish they’d bring out number 3
Portal 3, Half Life 3 and the cake are due to make an appearance in 2021 🙂

Looks interesting, is that a steam key, or direct download, it's lot more expensive on steam!

2+0+2-1 = 3 HALF-LIFE 3 CONFIRMED.!! 😀

Disco Elysium is supposed be supurb, I'd have got into it by now but over lockdown I've got quite into COD:warzone, which is pretty much to polar opposite but engraging foul mouthed Russians by booby trapping their loadout drops has yet to get old.

gog.com is a seperate game store run by the people that made the Witcher games and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, it was originally for old games that had been patched to run on modern windows but now they sell everything. (GOG = Good Old Games)
You can either download the games directly or use their store app GOG Galaxy. All their games used to be DRM free but I'm not completely certain that's still the case. Great company worth supporting.
For all....
what remains of edith finch is also worth playing. (not the same as inside or limbo i will add)
i thought the game was great.
I loved Limbo and Inside, and Far Lone Sails.
Word of warning though, don't buy Little Nightmares thinking it's similar to Limbo and Inside - it kinda is in terms of story, but the UI is a gong show and it really detracts from the fun.
Little nighmares is very good, but I'd say it's more of a traditional platform gamer under the hood.
2+0+2-1 = 3 HALF-LIFE 3 CONFIRMED.!! 😀
I KNEW IT! Good work.

Ahh, ok, thanks 🙂
Dunno if it's changed, first I've heard of it if it has, but GOG's policy has always been downloadable DRM-free .exe installers. They have their own Steam-a-like but it's not mandatory.
Both Antichamber and The Talos Principle are great!
TRI: Of Friendship and Madness is also good, though I never finished it.
OK Now I'm going to get carried away and just list all the puzzle games I've enjoyed since going on Steam a few years ago.
English Country Tune - relaxing abstract 3d puzzler
Hook & Lyne - two 2d puzzle games just pick up and continue whenever
Kairo - atmospheric explorer with some puzzle elements
They're all quite old as I've not really had time recently to find any new 3d puzzlers.
My word, what a gold mine I have yet to explore. Highlander, you're right, The Turing Test is excellent. Dyna-ti, thank you, that always makes me smile.
It's threads like this that always make me a bit frustrated when people write off video games as light entertainment. A game like Inside is truly an artistic achievement (it's always interesting when my wife walks past the TV, slows down, sits and gets drawn in for an hour. As a non-gamer she can still appreciate the intelligence that goes into them).
You know, I envy you. What a journey you have before you.
@dyna-ti I have a version of the Portal song by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and it's truly one of my favourite songs, it's classy yet ridiculous.
Yeah alright with the sarcasm there wasn't quite as many titles as I thought in my collection. Occasionally real life calls and then lost my 15 minutes to edit!
Another +1 for the Talos principle. Might also be worth checking out Ori and the Blind Forest.
