I played a fair bit when it first came out and enjoyed the main quest but I soon discovered that I wasn't actually any good. I stopped playing when the main focus seemed to be player vs player (duelling etc.) as I was hopeless (and didn't really understand the underlying mechanics) and haven't played for years.

I find myself minded to have another try, but probably just solo, quest driven stuff. I've watched a few 'how to' videos (animation cancelling, rotation, character/skills optimisation etc.) and quite frankly I find it all rather bewildering.

Is there enough to keep a doddery old casual gamer occupied (I've picked up the Greymoor chapter) or should I be looking at something else?

I tried to get into it 2 or 3 times, but struggled a bit

I miss the depth of single player RPGs like Skyrim and Witcher 3.

I'm Billy no mates when it comes to gaming so not done multiplayer with friends and not sure the way I interact with other players adds much.

But that said, I played a bit recently. It's much more polished that it was a couple of years ago when I last played and the multiplayer integrates much better with random strangers.

Yep, I loved Skyrim and The Witcher 3.

I might have a tinker with The Elder Scrolls Online, at least the built in quests. I don't think that I'll ever be good enough for PvP or Trials (which seem quite a thing).

I liked oblivion and sykyrim... Never played the online version though.

I thoroughly enjoyed death stranding though. Might be worth a look. People tend to love it or hate it. I certainly loved it for the visuals and soundtrack and story line.

I played for a couple of years up until about 2019. I rarely grouped or PVPd but the option was always there. There's absolutely loads to do now, much easier to get in to. It's different to Skyrim and Oblivion, so if you were expecting that, you'll be dissapointed, however going the other way when you've played a rich and evolved online world, it's hard to repeat offline. I first started mmo's with Everquest in about 2001 and was part of a pretty succesful euroganker guild (Nigh****cher), ive played a good deal of the early ones UO, Wow, Lineage, Conan, Star Wars Galaxies and I'd say that ESO is one of the best I've played for casual players.

Is it as good as Morrowind? I liked Skyrim, Oblivion was just ‘Field - The Game, but I still spent a silly number of hours playing it. Morrowind, despite the graphics, was by far the best one. Didn’t hold your hand at all, had a proper learning curve, great plot and atmosphere. The only downside was ****ing Cliff Racers, bastards.

I would love an Elder Scrolls game with the depth and difficulty of Morrowind in a modern engine.

More than I should, I'll be glad when work is busy again tbh 🙂
I've given up trying to chase the big numbers via animation cancelling and carpal tunnel inducing rotations.
Im in a nice guild, and im a doddery old casual too. Can give you my user ID (assuming you are on PC and not console)

That's kind, thank you.

I'm afraid that I just don't have the brain to cope with all the numbers and optimization that folk seem into and I certainly don't have the reactions (physical or mental) to make them work anyway. Watching 'how to' videos just seems to make me feel even more useless.

Hopefully there'll be enough solo content to keep me occupied (I enjoyed the main quest when I played it years ago) although perhaps that doesn't make the best of an MMO.

To be honest unless you're seriously going to get into crafting it's a free to play game. There are perks from paying obviously but it's not a necessity.
