Can you fit a bike in the back with the seats folded down?

Thinking of updating my 147 and not sure if I want to go down the roof carrier route.

Cheers
Scott

Had one to borrow when my lexus was getting some damage someone did to it fixed. Horrible car. Looked great but drove terribly. Spacious though so maybes a bike in the back but even for a small cheap car just not nice.

depends how much you take off it I would reckon.

I have a GT and I can get a 26 Turner Flux in with the front wheel off just.

A Guillietta is slightly shorter, and a Mito shorter still.

I need to take both wheels off my Capra to get it in the 147.

I was supposed to be taking a test drive of a Giulietta on Friday but I think it's sold now.

Steve, what made the Mito so bad to drive? I haven't driven one yet.

I'm on my third Alfa having been a die hard supporter of them for over ten years now. My MiTo however is without a doubt the worst car I have ever owned. Its the 155hp Veloce version. The handling is shockingly bad given the power the engine has. Its very easy to get into trouble if you plant the throttle on a bumpy road. It feels like it has very little grip although it never spins the wheels, bumps upset it terribly. Its harsh and noisy as well.
In terms of reliability mines had the gearbox and diff rebuilt, new disks all round, one rear calliper, one track rod end, two front springs, two front strut top mounts, three drop links, a new air con compressor and the most recent problem is that the wiring loom to the boot has failed so I can't get the bloody thing open.

All this is on a 59 plate car with 65k miles on it. I'm looking to replace it and it certainly won't be with another Alfa (Guilettas have their share of common problems as well)

The standard level of equipment is very good though.

Oh and to answer the op's question, with the seats folded down and both wheels off and seat post out I can get my mountain bike in the back.

My BiL had a Mito, it seemed eat drop-links. And the wheel bearing went at 20k.

I'm sure it has quite a few other faults too, he got shot of it pretty quickly.

Oh yes, I forgot it had a rear wheel bearing as well!

The engine however is very very good and amazingly powerful for a 1.4. Its also economical - I get 41 mpg and I don't take it especially easy.

I'd just like to second that they really aren't very nice to drive. I've driven a diesel one (petrol may be better) and the 'as calibrated' pedal response is basically non-existent; it's pretty much foot off or foot on the floor to go anywhere. You can make it a lot better by going in to the sport on the DNA control and the pedal feels ok (not good but ok), but then the steering goes horrifically stiff and feels like there is a massive rubber band which wants to snap the wheel back to the centre all the time. Almost no feel through it. Steering not much better in normal mode.

The above isn't just when 'pushing on' or any of that, this is just normal driving round town. Even the interior isn't very nice. All in all I'd say maybe go for something else imo.....

I drive mine in D all the time, you get used to the steering! It all feels terribly flat if you leave it in N. Thats another annoyance - only the more recent models remember which setting you last used - on mine I have to switch to D each time I start the engine.

Well this is making some disheartening reading, after giving up on trying to find a decent van, the Mito and Giulietta are the only two cars I've seen I like enough to think about buying.

Rockhopper, do you think you got a bad one? Alfas seem to have a bit of a reliability lottery some work fine and others are awful.

Had my 147 for over 9 years and it's been great and I really wanted an other Alfa, I'd better get out and find a few to test and see for myself

Don't be disheartened by the haters above .

Mitos are just fine and you can get a bike in the back , wheels off no problem .

I will be loading my QV up tomorrow evening with two bikes . I'll email you some photos .

Get in touch if you have any questions about the car .

I had a 147 previously also .

Hi Pete, a pic of a bike in the back would be excellent, if it's not too much trouble.

No problem , the plan is to load a 54cm road bike and a medium 140mm full susser !!

I could get that in my 147 .

I have a Mito (1.3jtdm) and have had a 147 and a 156. All were fine and good to drive. I get 60+ and drive about 100 miles a day

I'm a 5000 poster on the Alfa Owner forum, I've also had a 156 and a 147. Sadly the faults with my car are not uncommon, particularly the gearbox issue which affects all cars (not just Alfas) fitted with the General Motors M32 six speed gearbox. Its not a case of if it goes wrong, its a case of when it goes wrong! Not all Alfas have the M32 box but the other boxes fitted have their own issues.

The QV mentioned above is a rather different animal and has totally different suspension and gearbox to the rest of the range (its substantially more expensive as well).

Brakes, springs etc are consumables really these days but gearboxes, air con compressors and wiring looms shouldn't be!

The inde' that I take my 159 to does not rate the Mito or Giulietta at all.

Honestly I'd put the money towards a sorted 159.

Had a good look at one whilst it was up on a lift yesterday getting a service.
It was a petrol turbo 59 plate - if anybody has or buys one I would want to see the oil filter swapped in person - its in such an awkward place I very much doubt that they get changed during routine oil changes.
The suspension elements looked to be of a very light build , was less rusty than a fiesta I saw recently - actually pretty good.
