My wife's looking for promotional materials in the next 36 hours, so apparently too late to get it sent.

Any experience/materials that can be shared?

Secondhand knowledge inbound...

Mrs Dubs school sends a parent-mail to eligible kids parents inviting to them to a kick off evening meeting.

From there they give a quick chat about what it is, and an enrollment and expectations form. Selection is via a postcard the kids do explaining why they want to do it. They have to sort where/how they will do the service element before they are accepted.

It's oversubscribed every year.

Mrs Dubs has given up doing the coordinators role now - they school are paying another teacher to take on the extra work and the exped is being organised by an outside firm.

Coordinated it at my school for a few years however I'm unable to access school system/emails from home. Similar to above, we used the local authority to organise our expeditions, usually had around 60 kids out on expedition.

Probably already looked but some of this might be useful...  https://www.dofe.org/leaders/resources-and-downloads/

A group of parents took on organising the d of e at the local secondary school about 4 years ago. This has been really successful, and this coming year about 80 kids will be doing bronze silver & gold awards. The parent committee do everything, and most of the expeds are organised in house - walking & cycling. Outside providers have done paddleboard & canoe expeds - but that does rack up the cost which has to be raised

Tis the usual story - small number of parents doing a lot. Succession will be a problem - there was the initial group of parents, but as their kids move on there isn't a second wave of parents following to take over. I have helped out for 3 years on the cycling expeds & have just agreed to take over the cycling, whilst my mate has a break. So will be getting MTB leader etc It's been satisfying helping other kids get the opportunity to go mountain biking & it's been good craic.
