Where did you get my photo from??

Actually I look older than that & he looks like Oz or NZ prison service.

But he could be American or Canadian.

Or Dutch.
The weapons look familiar though.

yes, with a lot of spiteful muttering and maniacal laughter. Scary people 🙁 Lets's hope they don't read this or they'll be making one specially for me...

Just make sure you are in an area where knifes are used or you are transporting the knife (legitimately)to where it may be used, otherwise you may be charged with possession of an offensive weapon!

I love knives, I've no idea why, I don't like the fact that they can be used offensively or to kill, but I just love the feel and the look and the design of a knife. I take almost as much pleasure in it as I do in CNC'd machine parts, there's something primal about them (knives, not cnc'd parts!).

Er...correct. But he's NOT HMP.

Actually those weapons are the ones WE use, you should see the ones that prisoners make!

Just followed that link

$5700 knife

$5,700 for a Knife! Thats completely gobsmacking! How can any one pay that!

Steel- super super uber still can't be that much, Wood and leather for handle and sheath, can't be that much? How much mark up for labor! Can it?

tall_martin, the money is in that thing called ‘craftsmanship and exclusivity’. Knives of that standard take many hours to make, and there are plenty of collectors out there who'll snap up knives in an instant. Each one is unique, and that's what collectors go for. I must admit I'd be more impressed if it had a Damascus blade and fittings, but that's a lovely bit of work.
And to answer the questions above, ‘do people make their own knives’, yes, of course they do, lots of them. I don't have bench space, or even shed space, what with four bikes crammed into a small space ‘n’all, but if I did I'd happily spend hours designing and making knives. The thing is, a knife is a tool, the fact some ****wit chooses to maim someone else with one doesn't detract from that. A hammer or screwdriver is also a tool, but they get used as weapons all the time. I could easily do serious damage to someone with a ballpoint pen or felttip. I have a really lovely book on making knives, and there is a lot about making your own kitchen knives, and all the instructions involve using scrap steel; files, saw blades, old Harrow and plough blades. It's incredibly satisfying to be able to craft a tool that fits your requirements' exactly and is good enough to last for years of use. All I need is a much, much bigger shed, to take the drill press, the grinder, the belt sander, the electric forge for tempering...

turneround - my friend is a ironage forge tutor, knife making was( may still be , i dont work there anymore) on the prospectus. he even took teenagers to sweeden where they went out and stayed with a master knife maker in the snow in yurts. each lad came back with a antler knife they had made. this whole process totally changed their view of knives as tools not weapons. i nearly went on that trip as a staff member, wish i did! nothing to do with your post except he could help with bits etc. appreciation of the outdoors means appreciation and care for the tools that let you be there.

It's weirdo's (and i use it in a nice way) like you lot who make me think theres a future for the world. I mean, who would have thought people would make knives as a hobby.

I love the fact that people get so much pleasure out of such odd pastimes even if I have no interest myself.

It sometimes feels like everyone is turning reality TV/soap clones, it really warms my heart that folk like this prove its not true.
