I bet than can tell a fews stories.
Perhaps not as iconic but one of my old band’s drummer also had a Slingerland kit that used to belong to Kenney Jones when he was in The Who. Even had a set list written on one of the tom skins! The original kit was huge with double bass drums and the other half of the kit went to another drummer who later became the percussionist for Cornershop. 🤓
Not drums however the MiL owned one of George Harrison's guitars. My FiL (who died before I met Mrs D) was a 60's musician of some repute (guitarist for Dave Berry and the Cruisers) somehow ended up with it.
She sold it for £30k a few years ago and then we found out that it was sold last year or the year before in the US for somewhere a little north of $300k!
That Van Halen invasion era kit that's up for sale is gloriously bonkers.
Hmm, Peart never really did it for me I'm afraid. I remember his playing being memorably described thusly: "the guy couldn't swing if you tied a rope round his neck and hung him from a tree".
Someone once offered to sell me a set of John Bonham's drum cases. Not sure what I supposed to do with them...
When i saw the thread title, I immediately thought of neil peart.
Funny how that happens eh
Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden has a drum shop in Manchester, one of his kits is on display in store. Let me find a picture...
Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden
Went along to one of his solo / clinic / stand-up shows years back. He had the full Maiden kit and an affordable Sonor five-piece they were flogging. It was striking how much better he played and sounded on the smaller kit.
