Lease an astra as didn't have the time to to maintain a car and the deal was good (jet car finance).

I only do 8-10k miles a year so no real problems. There is a guide somewhere on what damage is acceptable per year. No problems to report in fact going to see if i can extend the term as all new deals seem to have gone up in price. August might be better as new car registrations comming into the market?

My only gripe is i couldn't justify the cost of an EV as the would have been ideal.

Least cars for years through PCP/lease never had any issues.

I don’t think it matters who you lease from.

There is a truly brilliant thread on here about Ling. Unfortunately I can't manage to find it. Perhaps someone more competent with the search function will post up a link.

It won't help you with your question but it is very entertaining... 🙂

I don't get this? Pretty sure Vauxhall don't make service free versions of their cars for the leasing market!

The thread was massive.

It had contract disputes, lies, accusations, fantastic giffs, cross references to other threads, flounces, trolling, bullying, all other the possible lease of a ****ing Skoda!

However, with this new forum, there is no way I could post a link.

I'm leasing an Octavia.  It's costing me five grand over two years.  I agonised over it for months, by ultimately my logic was thus:

For £5K over two years, I can have a brand spanking new car, decent spec (2.0 SE Tech with sat-nav and lots of clever toys like adaptive cruise control), full warranty, free breakdown cover, but have nothing to show for it after two years.

For the same outlay, I can buy a 7 year old Focus Titanium, have a six month warranty if I'm lucky, and at the end of two years be the proud owner of a 9 year old Focus which I can then run into the ground for nothing other than ongoing maintenance costs.  Unless the engine falls out of it after 7 months, in which case I'm humped.

No contest really.

I went with Simpsons Skoda, I did a lot a shopping around and they were unbeatable on price.   https://www.simpsonsskoda.co.uk/pch-offers/

The Preston branch was a joy to deal with.  The Colne branch I'd never set foot in again, I landed a high-pressure old-school salesman trying to sell me something I didn't want using all the "appeals to emotion" tricks in the book.  (I mentioned this in Preston and the sales guy replied, "yeah, I know who you mean.")

look at the contract hire and leasing website.

We have a car on lease via the staff scheme with the wifes work, it's a fully maintained package and seems expensive until you break it down and it's not too bad, for peace of mind it's brilliant, worn or punctured tyres at £150 a corner, who cares it's covered where as before we were buying 3-5 year old cars with 70-100k on the clock keeping for three years adding 90k or more and hoping they didn't die, which they usually did.

I leased a mazda 6 from our company scheme. I took it because the price was based on 12K a year, I was driving 33K and the company paid any excess mileage fees. Phew! Anyway, the kids destroyed the inside with scratches, and the outside with bikes. At three years and 10 months the turbo failed and the company paid £2K for a fix, then bang on the time to return it, the big end bearings failed and they wrote the car off. Fantastic result.

There is a reason why you won't see many 53 plate diesel mazda's around. It was their first diesel engine, and had a design flaw that starved parts of the engine of oil!

Changed it for an Eos, moved to commute less. Another four year lease before we had the option of moving. It went back almost as new. Now I just buy used for cash.

When I last changed my car I looked onto leasing but as I do about 18k miles per year it worked out cheaper to buy a 1 year old car and keep it for 4 or 5 years. Assuming no major bills or problems.

I’m tempted to go this route too with all the debate over diesel / petrol / hybrid

We've just leased a Kia Soul EV from a specialist for about 1299 and 199 a month, way cheaper than buying.

Also got a Karoq 1.0 DSG on lease, also very cheap.

Just getting the EV rapid charger sorted.

On my third personal lease. All good so far, no excessive charges, just a very convenient way to do motoring at a fixed cost. No dealers, no part-ex or dealing with time wasters selling privately, car gets delivered to me and then picked up at the end.

Cost-wise it's only favourable if you can pick from something on offer and avoid extra options. I find most cars are so well specified these days that the options list is fripperies anyway. An afternoon spent trawling the leasing sites and getting quotes pays off, there can be quite a difference in cost once admin fees, initial payment etc are taken into account.

Vowed never to do it but took the plunge last year. Kia optima diesel estate, 22k new. Costs me 146 quid a month on 10k miles. It's a great car and ticks every box for our lifestyle, but my God it's dull. Packge was 9+ 24

Used claris solutions as my broker. Well worth getting in touch with him. Small business and really cheap. No way could you get a new car for that sort of money in any other way.

Wessex fleet do daily/weekly specials so if you are not settled on a very specific model, worth checking them out. We got a Leon about a year ago on a great deal. Didn’t add any extra options to the car and couldn’t change paint colour even, but for a family runabout it’s perfect.

@Rich s

Got delayed a bit but other than that all good.

Never had a bad lease experience, other than the dealers you visit will probably want to sell you a car.

I'm coming to the end of my first lease in july and have gone significantly over the mileage allowance, I've totted it up at over a k. Of those here who have renewed several times are they fastidious about the mileage or has it been known to get away with it? :))

It will be in your contract - you pay for excess mileage at the rate per mile you signed up for.

When I was leasing, I viewed it as basically paying the depreciation. The company I leased from told me that any extras were zero valued - which I felt was pretty harsh for leather seats in a convertible (£1800 option). So when looking you should factor that in mind in the price, and avoid options.

A brand with lower start price may not be as good value due to depreciation rates. Cars with better specified non-options are likely to be a better buy.

Excess mileage fees are calculated based on your mileage, it's simple. I think mine was running at £5K - which would have been paid by my company. The Eos went back with 80K over four years and a relatively modest excess, as the last two years it was barely used.

I think mine is 5p/mile (so a thousand miles would be fifty quid).  It's worth doing the maths, it could be more cost-effective to pay the excess fees rather than pay up front for a larger allowance.

All the Skoda ones direct from Skoda I've had have been 3ppm. It depends on the contract. £30 for every thousand is good.

I've seen it both ways some contracts cheaper to take less milage and add it on at the end.

Not sure, my lease is "maintained" costs a bit more but includes tyres and servicing etc (do new cars still come with free servicing?) It's from jet car not vauxhall.
