Kids requesting fishing. Have no equipment or skill.

Just looking to rent a rod, buy some bait and relax for the afternoon.

Tried up in Scotland a while back where it cost £10 a person for an hour + charge for the fish if caught. Looking for something like that rather than the premium lessons at £100+ a person.

Anyone know anywhere more down to earth?

Try the local tackle/bait shop , they normally know everything fishing related.

It doesn't specifically mention it but I wonder if the tackle shops at #8 or #9 might rent equipment as well as sell permits?

Generally it's trout fly fishing lakes that rent out tackle and then let you fish.

My best ever day in London was at Billingsgate

Came home with three lovely trout and a John dory

Be prepared for the slimy, flappy (and too often bloody) process of unhooking the damn things that have been hoiked unceremoniously out of whatever pond you end up at. A beginner session might be an idea for you all.

London is a big place, you might want to be a bit more specific!? What kind of fishing - sounds like it was probably trout fishing you've done before? Not sure about that but coarse fishing (catch and & release) can be done on an almost non-existent budget. Local tackle shop will be able to help massively here but my kids, even with the mountain of fishing gear I have, sometimes have their best days with a £15 pole/whip and a pint of maggots. Costs are going to be a few bits of gear (those cheap whip/pole kits are all you need), some bait (maggots/sweetcorn etc), a pond (loads of day ticket waters all over from a few quid a day upwards) and you'll also need a licence (can buy them daily I think, weekly or annually). Maybe best to try and go with someone who knows what they're doing and can help with unhooking etc

The Grand Union Canal, that’s where I used to fish. Well, I say fish, I never caught anything . That was the 1960s though, so it’s probably teeming with all sorts of interesting stuff these days 🐠 🐟

Awesome, cheers all. 1st tackle shop got us sorted. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that.

It was trout last time and they sorted everything. Gave you a rod, bait and did all the paperwork. The warden rushed round and helped anyone that caught anything unhook and prep to take home to cook if they were struggling.
