Looking to get a setup for the garage.  Don't want to spend loads but would like something that just works.  For both punching and kicking.

Im a bit limited on wall space for a bracket and a bit nervous hanging it from a beam (old asbestos roof don't really want to be sending vibrations through the timbers). And other options?  Can you get decent freestanding ones that stand up to abuse?

We have Century Wavemasters at the dojo/gym I go to. They have water weighted bases that are pretty stable. I cant knock them over, though some of the better people can. Apparently using sand in the base will keep it more stable.

Edit: I have just looked... They aren't overly cheap

If it were just for punching I would recommend a water-filled bag, a simple A2 fender buoy works very well. They absorb an incredible amount of force without requiring super heavy set-up, a sturdy beam able to hold 30 kg would do it. The good thing about those is they absorb the force with little (if any) swinging. You can find one for circa £30.

Kicking complicates things significantly. I've tried a free-standing kicking bag with a heavy base and it just doesn't feel sturdy enough. Hanging bags tall enough for kicking will be at least £60 new, not including any mounts. I'm skeptical about being able to do it cheaply.
