Been running a netgear DG834G router/modem for ages and it's been running just fine. Just bought an Apple Time Capsule dual band router NAS. However, as it doesn't work as a modem, we've had to plug it into the netgear.
As I understand it, the netgear will broadcast on 2.4G and the TC will do 2.4G and 5G.
Obviously, the laptop will run faster on N and mobile phones will have to stay on 2.4.
Is there a logic for any particular set up?
Should I leave a 3 bands going,
switch off the netgear or,
Keep the 2.4G on the netgear and just the 5G on the Time Capsule?
Any thoughts? TIA
i'd say bandwidth. traffic on the g will not affect traffic on the n for a guess. Let the TC do all the work as there could be less chance of ip conflict.
Turn wireless off on the netgear, use the Time Capsule for all wireless communication.
Does everything work now through the Time Capsule?
When you do your first backup to the TimeCapsule DO NOT do it wirelessly. You will be waiting for days!!
Learn from my experience and hook your Mac to it with an ethernet cable.
yep, TC does all the wireless stuff for the laptop and the phones. Backed the imac up to it using etthernet and will be doing the laptop via ethernet over night tonight.
Thanks for the advice.
Now just looking to see how I can get vhs and dvd onto the time capsule so we can stream it back to the telly via the macbook pro.
