And is this as ****ed & economically unviable to repair as I think it is?

Thanks!

EDIT: Happy to have a go at fixing it myself if hardware related.

Might be driver board might be the panel. Have a look on eBay for the parts and see how much they are.

Look up what the symptoms are for panel Vs driver and decide which to buy

Cool, thanks. It's like this without anything plugged in (apart from power) so I'll start from there.

Edit: This is confusing! Appears to still be worth a lot S/H, but can't find out where to start with diagnosing/costing of panels/cards. Maybe one of those things where it's best taking to someone that knows what they're doing.

It's a u2721de if anyone in the know is feeling generous with their time.

What's actually wrong with it? All I know from your post is that when it's not connected, it displays a message to that effect.

The bit that's wrong is the vertical lines on the left 🙂

Well this is a bugger. Can't find any parts online to throw at it anyhow.

Looks like scrap ☹️

Yep, monitors are mostly disposable sadly, Dell themselves don't repair them, warranty's are new-for-old replacements.

Is it just the left inch or so of the screen? I would have thought someone would take it and just resize windows to miss that if so. My son has found that second hand monitors are less easy to come by than other PC parts -= probably as people move to multi monitor set ups

I've fixed a Dell monitor with a single line before, worth a shot.

Has someone been in there and messed about with the clock or phasing settings?

I have no idea what either of them are! I can't find any detailed menus in it and I can't connect to dell's diagnostic software as I don't have a dell laptop (what a crappy thing to do on the face of it), so am just to just take it apart and fiddle with bits 🙂

I'm reluctant to lob it away as it's not damage related so it must be fixable - surely.

Cheers for the suggestions so far.
