Looking for a new graphic designer that has a modern edgy style and not someone that just produces adverts for double glazing! Most I have spoken to seem to be in this category and their work is very dull.

Need someone that can come up with great concepts and styles.

Anyone have any recommendations?

We've had these guys do a few things for clients, they're very good - we'll use them to do our next profile.

We had a torrid time building our current one.

Never trust a graphic designer who spell checks anything. Its not natural.

I'd offer, but I don't have the time. 😉

(Actually this is true! Head is currently fried, and fortunately not a double glazing brochure in sight)

I know loads, they all work for decent agencies with D&AD, Cannes Lions and Clio awards to their name. What's your budget? 🙄

Budget isn't so much of an issue if the work is good and distinctive. It's really trying to find someone that we can build a relationship with so when we say " can you knock up a Christmas promotion advert" they have fair idea of what we are after and we don't have to define every single detail to the smallest level. We want someone that will bring their design flair and knowledge and not just their illustrator skills.

My next door neighbour is a graphic designer and some of the detail he goes in to is mind boggling. He also seems to do a pretty good job for clients who provide very little! Check him out at www.paulwalkerdesign.co.uk its based in Leeds but he travels around.

Is that a Christmas promotion advert for double glazing?

As for the OP - wanting someone to knock up a Christmas ad with no issues about budget and wanting them to be creative without bothering you with questions . I wonder what OP thinks would be a fair price?

Any half-decent advertising creative (i.e., not a designer) would be asking *you* questions to understand what you and your customers want, not just knocking up a pretty advert.

Alarm bells! Alarm bells!

Yeah the website is a bit simple to be fair but he doesnt really bother with it as most of the work he gets is via word of mouth. I have offered to update it for him but he is always too busy. I am never sure whether that is a good answer or not, yes he is busy with work but who doesnt make time to make the business better. What do i know, i cant draw and i dont have a job!

Yes of course we want someone that is going to ask questions over what is needed, but also want someone that uses their skills and knowledge to look at our business and work out what would be good, from a design point of view. Someone we can work with and not just someone that produces drab old artwork as they have the illustrator skills but not any design flair.

If someone produces great artwork and ads that result in us getting more business then more than happy to pay them a very good rate.

That neighbour stuff is DIRE! And i don't just mean the website. Having access to a 'pooter doesn't make you a graphic designer.

Woody, what you want sounds like what i do for the majority of my happy clients - think i'm in the wrong country though. Good luck anyway.

We use Cactus print in Kendal (we're based in Aberdeen). Because they are ace to work with, are good designers and despite my poor communication seem to understand what it is we want and need.
