Barrow in Furness area to be precise. He's in his early 40's & due out in the next few months. He's spent his time inside constructively by doing various trades courses, plastering, tiling, kitchen fitting & maybe joinery. He's currently on the lookout for openings in these areas & also trying to get funding for some associated tools, maybe about £500 worth. I have no idea how the courses that he has done relate to stuff he could do on the out, all I know is that he's a good worker & has passed all his exams.
If I can get him some addresses to write to for info/contacts that would be great.
(It would be even better if he didn't come back to jail though!)
Good luck with that. Isn't there an ex-offenders' association that helps with that kind of thing?
What did he do?

From experience of working in Barrow, the place is bereft of good quality tradesmen. I'd suggest he tries a few Construction Trades Agencies.

Like Ernie said.
If you mean what did he do to get where he is, he just got unlucky on the Monopoly board.
Could of been worse he could of been playing 'Cluedo'.
If he wants to work in construction and is thinking agencies then a CSCS card is a must as most agencies will not offer work without one if its a site. Best get that sorted if not done yet. Register with agencies all over the place not just local as its amazing how distant some of the robbing gets sorry agencies can be away from the actual work. Good luck to him.
Existing skills aside it might be worth looking at some of the employers that have a better attitude to employing ex-offenders just to get some cv / work experience under his belt - some of the bigger high street names are actually more forward thinking than most, Boots, Greggs, Travelodge.
Timpsons lead the way - they'll even interview people when they're approaching release.
Perhaps mpre related to his skill set = there are a few of the wood recycling charities I've worked with will be have skills and job training as part of what the do and might provide more trade-related work for him to do.
Thanks for those replies up to now fellas, there's a book in the prison library called 'The Prisoner Funders Directory' which lists most of the charity type (& other) organisations that help ex offenders but there's not a lot that say they can help my man. He quite fancies eventually becoming self employed but realises that's not gonna happen till he gets some hands on experience.
I can't offer any employment but good on you for trying to help out.
