3 choices Zafira,Touran, Passat

All have their pros and cons what I need is it to be diesel and automatic !

£5000 Touran will be a 2004 with spaceship miles...

£5000 Passat ex fleet 2006/7 with 120000 miles

£5000 Zafira ex fleet 2006/7 with 120000 miles

All good cars in their own right...

sensible me says forget the Touran
even more sensible says go for the Zafira
not so sensible says Passat (they go wrong )

Don't necessarily need 7 seats but helpful as in laws don't drive anymore...

thanks in advance for any comments

I just sold my octavia estate '05 with 63K for 5K today, it was fully loaded. Boot was nearly as big as Passat, the guy was well chuffed with it . Maybe I underpriced it a bit, but I needed shot and my new motor was almost 20% under the guide price :-).

I know they feature on every car thread here but why discount them?

I wouldn't dream of spending £5k on something with 120k.

You can buy better for less.

I looked at a Vectra 2.2i Elite auto hatch last week, good condition and £3.5k with 91k. If it'd been 70k I'd have probably bought it.

I have 05 diesel Zafira just gone 100k. I hate the look and sensibleness of them, but they are very very practical.

I have a zafira, 2.2 petrol and manual though. drives well with not too much understeer that most vauxhalls have, practically wise they are great, I can fit four bikes in the boot, the seven seats are great. Would have another though the next one will be diesel.

Waggle your left hand a bit as you drive and it is an auto 😉

£3.5k only if someone sells me a t4/Vito 6 seater LWB with similar miles 🙂

We have a 04 zafira diesel top spec bought nearly 3 years ago with 67000 on the clock for £3700 at the time. Private, and 180 miles from home, but still a good deal on a honest car.

£5000 sounds very expensive for a zafira of the age and mileage you are looking at.

We love our zafira, we have 2 kids but still use te seats in the boot quite a bit. That car is a real tardis and very comfy drive in town and on long drives to Switzerland etc.

I would however not buy one of te newer ones ( we could not afford one at the time ), as the diesels ( not sure about the others ) now have fiat engines and are supposed to be not that good. From what I have seen from a few friends who have one that seems to be true. My brother in law has a garage and is our mechanic and has told us we should not get one of the new zafiras.

I'd say get one of the last old style zafiras ( maybe 05 if poss) and save yourself a load of money!

2005 zafira (new shape) here, 150bhp 1.9cdti. Bought it with 40k and now has 100k. Only issues in that time have been a snapped coil spring, the wiring loom to the door fraying, and the alternator went at about 90k. Other than that it's been faultlessly reliable and very cheap to run. It's as fast as my Audi, comfortable on long journeys, easy to park. Really not much to not like
With all vauxhalls, you absolutely have to buy the top of the range ones (SRI, design or Elite) because the rental car basic models are horrific.
If you don't need the extra seats and the higher roof line, look at the vectra estate. You'll get a lot more car for your money, most will be top models, and I dare say they will drive better (tho I hear exhausts for the estate cost a fortune)

now have fiat engines

Zafira diesels are all 'fiat' engines - in that they are the range of engines designed jointly before GM/Fiat got divorced. Same engine used is sporty alfas to ducato vans

Having owned a tournament for the last six maybe seven years, same one. I'd not hesitate in buying another. The seats are more comfortable and more flexible (the middle seats can be removed if you want a van) and I've found it good to drive but mines manual diesel.
This is compared with a Petrol zafira I borrowed for a while.
The combo of diesel and auto is going to make things expensive.
