Hi,
I'm in need of a custom shock mounting bolt making.

I have a Boardman fspro and the replacement shock to frame mounting bolts are not very good. The diameter of the replacement bolt is 7.72mm and is loose in the bush.

In my search for a better option I came across this from orange bikesLinky which is a perfect length (diameter is 7.91mm) for the shock/linkage connection but is too short for the shock/frame connection where it needs to be 36mm long.

My thoughts were to buy a length of 8mm stainless rod, cut it and face it to the correct length, drill and tap (M6) either end. The only flaw is the lathe at work the main bearings had failed and was scrapped off during the pandemic so I no longer have access.

Can anyone help?

By bush I assume you're talking about the spacer in the eyelet not the bush (which will be 15.08mm or something daft) will almost undoubtedly be standard m8 x36 mounting hardware so I'm assuming you need something like this (in the right size obviously)
What ever is on the boardman will not be a proprietary connector.

It's also quite likely the hardware has worn if the connector nut has been a bit sloppy so no it's very sloppy.

@dangeourbrain no the outside diameter is 8mm to pass through the bush. The internal thread is M6

TFT as mentioned and various places on eBay I think too. TFT over custom made opportune I think will over custom sizes.

If they dont it's J Tech I'm thinking of.👍

@Poopscoop already tried ebay, they are as loose as the ones from Halfords. J Tech is my next call.

No luck at TFT.

I could have sworn TFT made me a custom mounting setup a few years back. Perhaps it is J Tech then.

Good luck getting it sorted bud.👍

Search is over, looks like BETD now make them. Feeling a little foolish now!

Apologies for getting all you machinist excited, you can stand down.

I managed to find what I was looking, it's a bit longer than I need. I'll trim it down to size using my trusty drill clamped on it's side as a lathe and some needle files. All I can do at home, I'd like a hobbyist lathe, blooming useful bits of kit. But ha ho what could go wrong?

It'll be fine..
