Hi all, i do alot of riding. I been having a slight ache in left knee for awhile however its now turned to painful. The pain is in the front inside of knee and now ive found a big lump that comes up from the back of knee. How to decribe it is difficult, however when i fold my leg back behind itself as if to stretch out my quads (the big muscle top of leg i think thats it) i can feel a twinge so when i then straighten the leg and stretch the calf a painfull lump appears in the rear of knee near to where the muscle is....shit this hurts im off to the docs but i have no faith in them. So has anyone had a similar prob and could it be from my biking?? Hmmm lets hope not
cheers
Front inside of knee? You mean under the kneecap? If so Google patello-femoral syndrome. As for the lump - no idea! 🙂
Google bursitis
Get yourself to a decent physio who knows about biking.
I've got similar issues with my knees, and have had for years, various visits to GP's came up with things like 'everyone gets knee pain' etc...
Latest theory is that I have tight ITB which is pulling the knee cap over slightly (when I lean back as you described my knee caps 'pop' which feels better - like clicking your knuckle joints). Also I may have weak glutes which mean the hamstrings take more load and eventually tweak/pull/tear (this could be your lump behind the knee)
Massage and specfic exercises should see you right.

I can recommend some good people in Bristol and Southampton if you are near either of those.
Could it be bakers cyst? Seems pretty common for cyclists, main cause is over extension...
Treatment is to follow the RICE principle.
I had ITB friction syndrome. GP and knee surgeon didn't spot it. Sports physio did and they sorted it.
If you are in the Manchester area get yourself along to see these guys.

Baker's cyst. Leave it alone and it will go away eventually.
This i what you want to do, it is the magic bullet!
Do the second exercise, where he has the one leg, in front of him, and he bends over towards it.
It will stretch your big mucsles from the upper leg, it will hurt a bit, but thats a sign, you are doing it right!
do it 2-3 x times a day, for 2 min.
You can also do it standing, leaning over a table.
BAKERS CYST it is!! Doc told me to stop running, ease off on cycling for abit hes also referred me for physio, so lets hope it gets sorted. cheers all for the input
