Just had dates through for keyhole surgery on my ankle. Arthroscopy I believe it is called.
I’m having it to remove a floating bit of bone and also to investigate what’s going on with my ankle locking out and limited range of movement.
Has anyone on here had it and if so what’s the recovery like.
Thanks.
steve.
Sorry, can't add any information mate but just wanted to wish you well with the surgery and recovery. 👍
Thanks Poopscoop I’m in two minds about it to be honest as recovery is going to see me off the bike for a few months again and it will be the best part of the summer I will be missing !
Yeah, I have had a couple of those. If they are going in to get something out then it makes sense but if it is just to have a look about then it makes less medical sense as most stuff is better seem with much less intrusive scans.
I can try and dig out the photos from inside my ankle when they did mine if you like?
Basically they shoved in a camera and a vacuum cleaner hose with teeth on the end to grab and remove the stuff that was in there.

Yeah, crap timing mate, I can genuinely empathise with that. That said, I think you need to take surgeries when you can get the offer these days. Nothing to do with politics, just practicalities unfortunately.
Found the photos but they are quite blurry

Recovery time from the op was minimal. 2-3 weeks in an air boot from memory. Took far longer from the actual injury that filled the joint with crap.
Those pics look interesting to say the least !!
tue timing isn’t great. I missed the summer of 2022 due to my open heart surgery recovery and so another summer off the bike isn’t going to be ideal however as you say you need to take surgery when you can get it now.
it’s been relatively pain free for a couple of months but I’ve been severely limiting the amount of walking I’ve been doing which isn’t ideal as the weight is creeping up again.
also had a ankle one, and a knee one. ankle one was to remove a bone chip. knee was to trim meniscus .
both were minimal recovery, and back to soft peddling after a week.
Yes I've had 4 to the one ankle, all from an old rugby injury where I ripped a bunch of the cartilage loose and damaged some bone, first 3 in from the front, last one in from the back of the ankle. The first ones seemed to be quicker recovery, out same day with minimal weight bearing and back to driving as soon as I could comfortably do hard braking if needed. Last one was in overnight as I wasn't in theatre until the afternoon and the nerve block hadn't worn off. Still having issues with numbness in the front of my foot from the last one but it could just be there's a bit more damage each time. The last one was to clean up a few bone chips, felt like I had a ball bearing moving around that would occasionally lodge in a painful position.
