A friend has more or less been abandoned by the nhs after decades and is in a very dark place, does anyone have any experience or suggestions for private sector support? NHS is now just oh dear maybe try this drug and come back in a month, repeat to infinity.

Depends what the problem is, I have used a counsellor that was very good for relationship counselling (ultimately unsuccessful, but her methods were good, and backed up by SCIENCE). Obviously this isn't psychiatry etc. but she may be able to offer some support.

PM me if you want details - she's west end of Glasgow based.

Thanks, but I think proper psychiatric support/treatment is needed right now. I don't really want to go into too much detail here as it's not me.

I think you will need to give some details of the condition/diagnosis/problem to get any useful responses. Mental health professionals provide specific services.

OK you might be right, I'm just hesitant because this is going to turn up in google searches on the subject now. I might see if I can get it deleted at some point before listing details if I can figure out how to contact a mod

Is there a Mental Health Crisis Team where this person is? Have they already been referred to a Crisis Team by a GP before?

My wife is a consultant psychiatrist in central Scotland, I'll see if she had any ideas, though as above it will very much depend on the problem...

SAMH worth a call, even if it’s just to offer guidance?

In my experience with the MiL you sometimes just have to keep shouting to get the right help.

Cab you support you friend in re-engaging with the NHS? When you eventually get into the right kart if the system it can be excellent but getting there be extremely difficult.

Cheers guys, I don't feel right going into any more detail publicly which is possibly silly. TJ provided some charity links in private including SAMH as above which I've passed on to a family member.
