Just need some for the flight and for quiet moments on holiday to download and store.

I have all the usual BBC ones - Film Review, In Our Time, etc. - so looking for something a bit leftfield if possible.

Something techie, funny, history, political...that kind of thing (not all at once of course).

And if anybody mentions a rugby podcast... 🙂

Thanks all.

The skeptics guide to the universe is enjoyable if you like science and skepticism. The last few eps were live shows so the audio quality was a bit poor though.
Kermode and Mayo's film review podcast, not sure if that was the one you mean in your post.
If you like computer games then check out the Giant Bombcast.
Also the Guardian science podcast, but specifically the one about the sounds of the shuttle launch from 12th July. The rest are hit and miss and I find one of the presenters extremely annoying

i always enjoy danny baker's podcast from his 5 live show. he's not to everyones taste mind. Also Adam and Joe are most amusing. David Mitchell's soap box is good for 2 minutes of his "angry logic".

I agree, some of these are excellent, but some are awfully boring.

My normal listening:

- PC Pro (techy stuff)
- Gareth Jones On Speed (car-geek/motorsport stuff)
- Mitch Benn (half an hour of comedy songs, mostly other people's)
- Answer Me This (comedy)
- BBC R4 Friday Night Comedy
- Infinite Monkey Cage

Have downloaded for weeks when I have more time (long boring car journeys, etc)

- Guardian Tech Weekly
- Windows Weekly
- T3
- Gamers With Jobs Conference Call
- Freakonomics Radio
- BBC Comedy of the Week
- Desert Island Discs
- Jay and Silent Bob Get Old

Also worth listening to (if the humour is to your taste) but finished - AIOTM, plus Richard Herring also did a daily podcast show at Edinburgh, good mix of interviews and guest standup, and 25+ hours of listening there.

Oh, and if you're on an i-device and listen to a lot of podcasts, the £1.50 or so that Podcaster costs is worthwhile just to save the faff of syncing them manually.
