As per title really - MrsRNP and a friend are putting on a first time gig for which they've booked the venue but they are looking for somewhere that doesn't take the absolute piss for accommodation costs.

Ideally near walking distance of Surgeons Hall with cooking facilities.

Minimum 2 bedroom's

Dates - 9th - 17th August.

Anyone fancy going on holiday and want to rent their house out to a good cause?

When my lad was up there a couple of years ago they stayed in some uni halls - might not be quite what she's after but wasn't outrageous cost.

August in Edinburgh I doubt if you will get a room anywhere nearby unless you're loaded and willing to pay a fortune

Rent a campervan and park outside the city at a campsite , park and ride or the train to Waverley

They are getting very greedy those Edinburgh folk and it might come back to bite them on the bum

When the OPs username I briefly got it confused with TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR.  I thought we could set him up with TJ and you'd have the makings of an odd couple sitcom!

You require a licence to legally rent out your house in Scotland.

If you have gone to the trouble of getting a licence then presumably you will be using the usual booking platforms. Unfortunately market forces dictate the prices rather than it all being down to locals taking the piss. If you don't price your property at the market rate then a dodgy 3rd party will snap it up and sub let it.

If you don't have a licence and you let your house then your insurance will be invalid.

maybe not your first choice but the train to Glasgow only takes 50 minutes .
opens up a lot more affordable options

I’m sure there would be cheaper and quicker options if “out of town” was the objective.  50 min on the train and affordable in Glasgow probably means >1h30 door to door to Surgeons hall.   I’m not sure it’s the “Edinburgh experience” people go for.  A peak return is £21.70 each day. Bus would be cheaper but take longer.

There's a campsite just outside Newtongrange where I live.  It's on a bus route which pretty much takes you to Surgeons hall in about 40 mins.  Another option that might be possible is Newbattle Abbey College, they might have accomodation in August and again there's a bus goes door to door.

They are wanting as close to Surgeon's hall as possible TBH as they have a 10pm show slot - and 15 minutes turnaround time. The guy doing the actual show is a friend of ours who runs the local stage/acting school so is used to staging performances and shows (Chicago/Calendar Girls/Made in Dagenham etc etc), MrsRNP does the backstage organisation.

However this is their first time at Edinburgh so stress levels are going to be high without dragging stage gear about/train journeys/campsites etc but thanks for the suggestions.

I parked at the park and ride near the uni, despite signs saying no overnight parking, I left it there for 3 days no problem.  If you got stuck I d rent a van and kip there.  Bus into town.
