Anyone got a Motorola G22?

I’ve got a Moto G7 Plus, which works well enough, but the battery life is about 3 hours when I’m using Google Maps as a sat nav, even when it is plugged in to the car. I’ve had a new battery fitted and it is no better. So, it is time to cut my losses.

I want to stick with Motorola because :

a) I’m a lazy technophobe and I like the setup facility where it clones your older phone accounts and settings.
b) I’m a tight bastard and a £109 price tag appeals. Especially as I have a habit of dropping them or occasionally sending them through the washing machine.

Don’t want the world’s fanciest phone. Just want something reliable that will double as a sat nav on longer journeys.

The G22 has Android 12, the comparably priced G31 has Android 11 and is a year older.

Are you using a fast charger in the car?
I use a decent 18w fast charger from the cigarette lighter which keeps the phone charged up when using the maps.
The g7 phone you currently have seems to have a decent spec. I wouldn't buy a G22.

The power drain on it is shocking. A 20 minute drive with Google Maps on will take 15% out of it from a full charge. Half a day of messing about on STW, Twitter and WhatsAPP will take 70%.

Got a couple of long drives in the middle of nowhere coming up and I don't want it to conk out.

The G7 is a four year old design. I asked on here last week and another G7 owner said that battery performance had dropped off a cliff in the last few months.

Something up with the phone, I haven't had a phone that outpaced the charging since WinCE days! 😀

Deals on Motorola at Amazon for the spring sale.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/display-speakers-TurboPower-charging-Lavender/dp/B0BVZT9LWP/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2CW6EM4MIK4IN&keywords=moto%2Bg13&qid=1680253011&s=electronics&sprefix=moto%2Bg13%2Celectronics%2C124&sr=1-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1

G13 has the latest Android OS and the turbo fast charging...

If you're looking for long battery life, the G31 is really good.
It's like one of those old Nokias that you don't have to charge for 2 or 3 days.

Yeah, it isn't a happy phone. Which is shame as it works well, but not for very long.

Could stretch to a G13.

I've got a G7 plus, a few years old, and haven't noticed a drop-off in power. I use Waze and when plugged in the car it charges up during the journey. I do wonder if in-built obselescence is designed into them and I'll suddenly have a useless phone?

I would check that the USB-C port contacts are clean then go through your apps list and delete / deactivate anything you don't need / don't recognize.

My wife got a new Motorola G30 something recently and the battery life was terrible as you describe. She'd used some sort of process or software to transfer all her data and apps from her old Samsung phone and it had copied over a load of bloatware apps that were running in the background. One factory reset and clean Android install later and she's getting at least two days out of a full charge.

I'm still running an old G7 Power - IMO there's no noticeable performance boost between my wife's newer G Series phone and my G7. I'd try and work out why your G7 is burning through juice before splashing cash.

Moto G62 is the one to get. G22 is regarded as a bit of a donkey. Above your price bracket though.

I do and confirm it's a ****ing lemon of a phone. My g7 power felt faster.

OK. The G22 is off the menu. Thanks.

Talked to the IT guy at work who gave the phone a quick once over. He didn't find any crap running in the background.

Going to back it up to an older phone and do a factory reset. If that fails then its new phone time.

I have a G7 but don't have any issues with the battery - although it is incredibly sluggish at the moment. I reset might sort it out though.

I was considering getting a Pixel 6a which can be had for £299 at Carphone Warehouse and includes a £50 voucher from Currys.

Not answering the question, but I have the G10, had the G9 before, both good phones with 2 day battery life, even when using Sat-nav.

Yeah, I had a couple before this one too and the battery life was excellent. I think its a power consumption rather than battery life issue, hence the charge going down even when plugged in if I'm using Google Maps.

Will investigate the G32, or wait a month and get the 62.

It could be worth having a look at the storage space each app is taking up. I was using my old G5 Plus last week. Found that Brave was using 1.5 GB. Cleared the data and suddenly the phone was working nicely again. Battery life back to 2 days again.

For info assuming you use Google Play and sync your phone to it, any new Android phone you get will sync all the apps so you don't need to stick with a Motorola phone.

I'd recommend a known Chinese phone. I've got a Poco X3 NFC and two years in its still going strong. Keep an eye on Hot UK deals.

wifesbeen commenting her g7 battery is now not getting her the day without a charge.

i've just replaced my g8 plus, battery life on that was getting worse and it was getting very unresponsive and freezing all the time. looked at other makes but like motorola for the near stock android so when i saw currys where doing the edge 30 for £200 got one of them.

before i saw the edge 30 did look at a poco but wasn't sure on there version of android, apparntly it's a very love/hate thing

We've got the g62s at work. It's ok but like the MOTOpro we had before it's glitchy and the Bluetooth is crap.
It works great at first, then eventually refuses to connect to anything unless you restart the phone. It'll then work for anything up to a day or as little as a couple of hours.
It works fine for transferring data but Audio, forget it.
All 4 of ours do this and one now will not accept or make calls.
The Moto 7 was fine, although the charging ports fail on them after a while.

I am on my third Moto phone (currently a G8 Power Lite) and now looking for a replacement and I looked at the G22, but I have not read anything good about it.

My G8 PL still holds a really good charge, its just getting a bit slow but I have had it for 2.5 years. I am struggling to find some to replace it. I always buy a sim free phone and I never spend more than £150 on it as I personally think they are a waste of money. I only want something with a really good battery and camera.
