You all know you that don't actually need invites, right? You just need to keep checking plus.google.com until you hit a window where it's allowing logins (such as right now).

Yes but they've "currently exceeded" their capacity which isn't a bad definition of full. 😀

They've currently exceeded an arbitrary limit artificially set to [s]increase demand[/s] reduce load, perhaps.

It's really quite good once you understand that it's like a mashup of the best bits of facebook and twitter - not just a Google facebook. Gives a lot of flexibility in terms of following/friending etc.
