So the wife has decided she likes coffee, well i say coffee, she actually likes flavoured lattes and other fancy things.

Anyway shes decided she wants a coffee machine. Now theres absolutely zero chance of her using a gaggia classic, and even though i would use it for espressos for myself, if i tried to make her anything fancy on it she'd straight away tell me its **** and she should have just got a machine that does it all.

She doesnt want one with a seperate milk think either so really that leaves the dolce gusto type machine where theres flavoured pods already available.

So, she'll be happy with that, but before i buy it i just wondered what they are like for normal black espressos (which is what i'll be getting from it)

thanks in advance

My wife got one of those as she got fed up with the separate milk thing with our Nespresso machine.

She used it for a week and went back to the Nespresso.

Personally even the named stuff like Costa tasted horrible out of the Dolce machine whereas Nespresso always taste pretty good.

We've got a Dolce Gusto machine.
Previous version of this one, I think:

Tastes fine to me. We have tried

Americano
De-Caf Cortado
De-Caf Lungo
Grande
Espresso
Espresso Barista
Espresso caramel
Cappuccino

All of them are fine as far as my untrained taste buds can tell.

We tend to stick to Espresso, Grande, De-caf Lungo & De-caf Cortado normally. They're all nice.

A mate of mine has got a Nespresso one. The normal coffee drinks don't taste much different to me, but the ones with hot milk are a bit more 'authentic' I s'pose as it does the whole hot, frothy milk thing.

We've got one and mainly drink the espressos, lungos, mochas and caramel lattes. I'm by no means a connoisseur but they all taste good to me.

Why not? The Nespresso milk frother is probably the easiest thing in the world to use. You pour a bit of milk in, press a button and 1 min later you get frothed milk. That's it and the end result is a really nice cappuccino or latte.

Every machine I've used where the milk is contained in the capsule has been shit.

we also have one, probs 2 yrs old. Use mainly Americano, Lungo and xpresso. We like it as do others who have tried it. Our uneducated taste buds rate it ok against friends with fancy bean to cup machines !

I've got one - you can have it cheap if you want (and you're near leeds)

I liked some of the coffees, wasnt keen on the Americano but the cappucino was nice...milk can be quite sweet tho

prefer my beans tho!

We have the Dolce Gusto and Tassimo machines. The DG wins hands down, FAR nicer tasting coffees and all that other stuff.

Just out of curiosity, why?

FWIW, I have a nespresso machine to sell. Makes great espresso 🙂 You could pick up a cheap frother elsewhere...

Just as an aside, I get very good results from these. They are easier to wash, occupy less space and are a lot easier on the pocket.

Except it doesn't make the type of coffee the OP's mrs wants. I quite like cafetiere coffee, but it's quite different to an espresso or latte.
