Just toying with the idea of buying one of these as a basic bike taxi . I only know a couple of people who've had one and they reckon they were sound little vans . There are lots of them on the autotrader site and was also wondering if you can get 2 medium sized full sussers in without taking any wheels off and also carrying spares / toolbox etc . what do you reckon ? thanks

We have a 2005 Desire 5 seater, which is essentially a van with seats. 2.0 HDI, handles like a duck on ice, happy on the motorway at 85ish, great for family & biking life. We run ours as a 3 seater most of the time which is great for extra space in the back. I reckon you'd need to remove front wheels only. With ours as a 3 seater you can easily stack 3 bikes in, front wheels removed, and all the kit you'll ever need. Not cool, but very practical.

I have been using citroen berlingo's as a company work vehicle for the past 5 years. They handle like a boat and are pretty basic but good on fuel and can take 2 full suspension trail bikes with ease, probably could do 4 with kit but i've never tried. Depending what model year you are looking at, the newer van (from around 2009/2010 onwards) handles a bit better and has 3 seats up front, although its very cozy with 3 adults!

Ive got 2

A 2 seater van with no bulkhead

And a 5 seater multispace

Both mk1 facelift/m59 shape.

The van takes 4 bikes with both wheels on - - thats 1 large 29er 1 small 26er - 1 large roadie and one small roadie.... And all our camping and living shit for 3 weeks in the alps all packed around - its a tight fit. Regularly just throw 2 bikes in the back with no trouble

The mk1 multispace with the back seats folded up needs the front wheel taking out of my bikes but the small bikes go in both wheels on. The mk3 xtr model has individually removable by quick release seats. Lower models only the single seat lifts out .

Cheep to run , easy to work on im a fan. Had the van 6 years now and done 60000miles

Thats my large mtb , my large time trial bike - both with front wheels out , my bed on the left and my tool box and kit box are undr the bed.

Snug but fine for 1. 2 is impossible - we tried.

Thanks qwerty , as it'll only be for my son and myself i'll only need a smaller model but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot by getting something too small . Think i'll pop round to a guy I know tomorrow and see how my bikes fit in his van

I've got the Peugeot partner equivalent. Paid £5500 with 30k on it.

Here it is with 3 FS bikes, 2 29ers and a 26".
Mine has the 3 seats up front which is handy but only for short journeys!

2.0 hdi = good strong reliable/ bit heavy and fuel Eco ok
1.9d non turbo = ultra reliable basic / v v v slow and gets annoying it's so slow
1.6 hdi = modern great engine IF WELL LOOKED AFTER./ Whole world of drama if abused and mistreated!!!
1.4/6 petrol = v rare and best avoided if m/way use planned only consider if your only doing very low miles/ round town use.

Mines the 1.6hdi, not the quickest but okay. Averages 47.8 mpg for my daily commute of 15 miles non motorway.

Once met a joiner whilst working away.. Asked what hotel he was at and said hotel berlingo. .asked where it was and how much per night and he took us to his van...... Funny guy. He despised it but it got hit by a bin truck in oban and lads regularly "borrowed" it for a quick butty run and floored every gear.. Hes still got it and still going strong. Granted sounds like a sherman tank screaming through a tunnel driving over bags of things that groan but it cost him 150 quid 🙂

Also concider the expert / dispatch / scudo all the same
Much more space inside and same engines mostly.

Only the 1.9 non turbo is even slower than in the Berlingo but seems to go on and on
