Thinking of going for a bike instead of the car. Kids might get annoyed if its raining on the walk to school but can't really see any other problems. Its only two miles anyway 😉 any pros and cons other than safety which I get to see at work lots so realise the dangers of being a twonk and other drivers , bit like riding a road bike really
I used to use a motorcycle as my only form of transport many years ago and its certainly doable. Not the most comfy for long trips, I have to say.
make sure not to skimp on leathers/textiles and crash helment etc, not only for the safety aspect but for the warmth and not falling apart in 5mins aspect too.
Be prepared for whatever the weather wants to throw at you.
Of course I'm old and squishy now so I only have a motorbike for sunny days 🙂
Get some waterproof textiles that will fit over your work clothes, some goretex boots and some warm gloves for the winter. I switched to bike only about 5 years ago (although I was previously commuting by bike anyway) and love every journey I take, even when offered a lift I prefer the bike 🙂
Can't see that don. I don't need one for the commute as I walk anyway. Only thing I'd miss is taking bike for rides but I seem to be losing interest in mtb anyway. That and little ones start school soon and I'd be walking in all weather but that's no big thing its character building lol
I wasn't expecting that! Here's a link instead.

Hmmm are you trying to make winters unpleasent for your self ?
Take it you had a drive in a defender to bring all the bad memorys flooding back ?
I spent 10 years with the motorbike as sole transport, tbh the fun wore off quite a while back and just left the impracticality. Now I've got the car and bike I'm back to using the bike happily and enjoying rides, and using it when it's the right tool and the car when it's the right tool- but I'd find it hard to go back to just the bike, in fact, I'd sell it and keep the car. And I'm a bit amazed by that because motorbiking was pretty much my life 5 years ago but now it's just transport.
But if I commuted into a city centre or other traffic nightmare, I'd possibly be the other way round.
Lol trailrat I'd love one but prices are mad for decent ones.
That looks good don 😉
I don't need to commute, our lass has a car for emergency use that I can pinch . My current car just sits most of the time doing nowt but costing me money
I'll have to have a think on it , cheers chaps
In winter, when its cold, and I have to break the ice off the saddle, I regret it.
When drivers pullout on me knocking me off, I regret it, til the compensation cheque arrives.
In spring, summer and autumn, when I zap past the queueing traffic, and park for free, I don't regret it.
When I want to go somewhere looking smart or take a date out, I regret it.
When my insurance renews at less than £80 a year, tax at £60, and for that I get more performance than a hot Subaru or say a Porsche, on anywhere other than motorways, on a bike giving 45 mpg and that cost me £1k and I could still sell it for that, I dont regret it.
That women notice me in leathers, and laugh/joke, when they'd ignore me otherwise, I don't regret it.
That I can use the bike for journeys of pure pleasure, without needing to get somewhere, and go on ride outs with mates - which would be futile/pointless in a car, I don't regret it.
When I go for a beer with mates I never have to "drive" as I can't give a lift. I don't regret it.
That plod give more sympathy to bikers, and I've been stopped for speeding 2x and given a roadside lecture and sent away, when in a car I dont think same would have applied, I don't regret it.
Going through forward facing gatsos at speed, I don't regret it.
Pros and Cons. The pros still oughtweigh it.
So you have a car you don't use, and walk to work - what do you need a m/c for?
Rode a Ktm 950sm everyday for many years.
When I stopped commuting it stopped being an awesome tool and became an expensive liability.
Miss it a lot but happy to have gotten away with it, still in one piece.
Couldn't get rid of the car for practical reasons but have had this a week and am absolutely loving it. 60'ish to the gallon and going straight to the front of a queue of cars today (at least 15 minutes wait otherwise) brought nearly as big a grin as blatting down some nice twisty back roads.
Problem is.....................I'm eyeing up something bigger already 😉

There was one of those parked outside the bike shop I was at today alongside a KTM. I was
Br for the times I need to get about where I use the car and for fun 😉 I like the kwak k750
At the moment 😉
