I’ve got several moles on my face which I’ve always hated, had them from birth. Been thinking recently about having them removed as I am very self conscious about them and they have affected my confidence a fair bit over the years. Kids always ask about them (in a nice way to be fair and I always explain nicely but it does cut me deeply when it happens).
I know it isn’t cheap, looks like about £300 for laser removal for one plus £95 for each extra one on top of that. I can see it’s a fairly simple operation but I am concerned about them growing back later. Mine do seem suitable for laser removal.
Just wondering if anyone has had it done and what their experiences are.
The only mole I’ve had removed was from my inner thigh and he didn’t use a laser he used a scalpel. It’s never come back and given the size of the chunk he took out I’d be surprised if it did. Happily it wasn’t cancerous and I now have a scar on my inner thigh from a bloke with a knife.

Me too, only on the outside, but the guy weren't no surgeon 😆 😆
I had an itchy one on my back removed by a guy with a scalpel.
Nowt to worry about and have a scar on my back.
Have a big mole on my face and it's great, without it I'd be too damn handsome.
I've had a mole removed on my face at local GP. I'd ask your doctor first before paying for the procedure.
My mole was annoying when shaving and I also didn't like it's appearance. Procedure was quick, local anesthetic with a scalpel.
Would add that the doctor checked several times if I'm happy with the risk of a scar on my face but TBH the mark left is better than the mole!
I have just had the bill from my mole removal man. 36 of the little buggers he removed @ £8 a pop. Should be able to make a nice pair of trousers from them 🙂

Removal of benign skin lesions for cosmetic reasons definitely not available on the nhs. Please don’t bother your gp unless your are worried about skin cancer. The price you’ve been quoted seems pretty cheap to me.
I wondered whod be first well done Welshfarmer

Thanks. I think I asked years ago and they said they wouldn’t remove them.
The ones I have to be careful with when shaving aren’t the ones I would most like removing! It’s the ones on my forehead and the one on my nose/next to nose I dislike most.

Thanks for the advice. I won’t bother the GP then as they wouldn’t remove all the ones I want gone so would still have to pay the initial cost anyway.

Yeah, hilarious laughing at something I’ve had to endure with my whole life and was bullied about my entire school life. Aren’t you all clever?
Idiots. 😡

Come now, there wasnt an insult in there, and tbh did you really expect someone not to make a joke 😕
In fact from the title I thought that was the subject matter, and you'd moles in your garden or such.
But as above, see a doctor who will arrange to have them removed. A scar is nothing.
I had one lasered from my waist line when I was a child as my jeans were irritating it. The GP did it in a minute.
My wife has loads removed at a clinic in eastern Europe. It was much cheaper, but partly because we were in the country at the time already. They gave her a variety of anti scar medications to use. Excellent service. Neither of us had any problems long-term.
If they've been bothering you then go for it.
Had 2 big ones removed from my back this year. Was with a scalpel and the pigmentation is still there. Doesn't bother me as i wanted them removed as they kept catching on stuff.
Had it done privately though, wouldn't have got it done on nhs
I had two removed from my face (with a scalpel). I got it on the NHS about 10 years ago. Main reason was that I kept catching them shaving, but wasn't that keen on the appearance either. I think if it's purely cosmetic you'd have to pay. Mine have come back a bit, probably because they didn't want to cut too much out for fear of scarring.
Had one removed from my jaw/neck years ago as I kept catching it with a razor when shaving, frozen with some kind of spray and it scabbed over then fell off after a couple of weeks, GP did it after I explained the problem
Had a couple removed, three in fact. One from my back and two from my face. Facial ones were easy and it only looked like I'd been glassed for a couple of days. Now you can't really tell I have any scars. They just blend into the other scars I have from stupidity.
The one on my back was rather larger and the stitches split a little so the scar is more noticeable, even after nearly 20 years.
I'd had quite a large one on my back all my life, just below my shoulder blade.
About 10 years ago i went to the GP with a chest infection and whist listening to my chest she asked if the mole was ever itchy.
I said yes (i knew where this was going) so was duly referred to a dermatologist a Kings.
Dermatologist said their policy was to remove anything that looked slightly shifty as prevention was better than cure - and if i was free for the rest of the day she'd do it that afternoon.
It was her last day before maternity leave - she was hilarious and clearly de-mob happy.
The chop-out was a bit brutal - a leaf-shaped cut about 35mm long to ensure a good margin - the stitches looked a bit like she'd learned to sew in prison but the Mole was tested and no Cancer so all good.
I assume facial moles are removed with a little more finesse?
They just blend into the other scars I have from stupidity.
Yes I have a couple of those scars too which will help it blend in. 😂😂
@b230ftw please accept my apologies for my light hearted comment. It was not intended to offend in any way. Just a bit of STW banter.
I really did just receive my bill from the mole catcher though. They are a real problem here and can cause soil contamination of silage which leads to listeria & death in the animals if they eat it.

I had one like this removed as a kid, it was on the back of my neck and the barber kept nicking it with clippers.
I have hundreds on my body and would quite like to have most removed for fear of cancer (rather than aesthetics). Sounds like a weekend in Eastern Europe might be in order.
In my late teens I had several in a row across the small of my back, all started changing and growing crusty so they were sliced out in a big lump (under a general anaesthetic), leaving a line of stitches. A couple of weeks later I was helping with a job, something dropped so I instinctively bent to catch it and felt my back unzipping as the stitches pulled out. Still have a huge hole/scar and the moles turned out to be benign.
Yep, hurt like hell having them cut out...

£8 a mole!Bloody ell Welshfarmer,I would do them for nothing if a lived closer.Used to keep the local golf course numbers down in return for allowing me to run my Lurchers over over the course. In the evenings or at night obvs.
turned out to be benign
I had some moles removed from my back.
'Benign?' I inquired.
'No there be eight.' doctor said.
don’t bother your gp
A disproportionate number of males die through not wanting to bother their gp. Any concern with medical or psychological impact is worthy of appointment. Furthermore some practices have mole clinics (pre Covid anyway) where they do them there and then - freezing was one technique that didn't require stitches but that might be out of date now.
looks like about £300 for laser removal for one plus £95 for each extra
Worth it for piece of mind I'd say.
I've had a couple removed, from my arm and one from my leg both by knife under local anaesthetic. Biopsy showed nothing nasty thankfully. Very minor scar for both, so much so that i have to hunt them to find them in my hairy appendages.
I’ve had a mole removed on my face at local GP
As docrobster said, not a job for a GP. And anyway, I would not be wanting a GP to do cosmetic surgery on my face. Recalling the COVID intubation by gynecologist meme... 😉
I had a basal cell carcinoma removed by my GP. On my chest. Which never sees the sun.
Price looks fair, I would.
And for reference, I pay £200 for an annual private dermatology full body check. Half my family died from melanoma. I consider this money well spent on annual life assurance. If only for the piece of mind for my remaining sister.
Yup, I've had one removed from my thigh which turned out to be malignant about 10 years ago. Two little ops, local anaesthetic. I'm quite 'moley' especially on my back so have been a little paranoid ever since, always worn a shirt in the sun, high factor sun screen, hat, etc. Currently waiting for a 'fast track' 2 week referral to the local hospital dermatology clinic as I've had an itchy one on my back that's gone a bit red - I nipped to the Docs on Tuesday with it.
OP if you've got moles on your face that you don't like, I'd be paying up and getting them sorted if it was me - doesn't seem like a bad price if it'll make you happier and more confident.
Similar to Tired above I had a mole on my face which changed colour and was proved to be cancerous - result free face lift courtesy of the nhs
I had two removed about 15yrs ago from the top of my head. They were covered up by hair until i started going bald and then they became a PITA when i tired to shave my head.
I was at the time the biggest wuss going when it came to needles etc but i just got sick of catching them and seeing them and asked. They booked me in with local doctors surgery and i went in. 30mins later i walked out thinking i wish i had done it 10 years earlier.
Please don't listen to anyone saying don't speak to your doctor and its wasting their time. It most certainly is not. There are not many things you can have done in 30mins which will make your mental well being so much better. The doctor i am sure will not begrudge you this.
For the record, i walked in, sat down and had a couple of injections in the scalp. She then got some contraption which scraped the mole and cauterized it at the same time. Oh the fun when one of the moles dropped in my lap. Honestly, for the money quoted its a no brainer but i definitely think this is something the NHS shouldnt begrudge IMO.
Edit....one of the most shocking things i have seen in my life was the crusty scabs which came off weeks later. They had hair folicles attached to the (hundreds) and they were like white tubes attached. It was utterly repulsive, like something you would see on photoshop
Trying to add attention seeking pic- chicks dig scars eh?

The ones I want gone are birthmark moles, so no fear of cancer thankfully.
Worth it for piece of mind I’d say.
No, that's just for moles. Other parts are dearer...
NO JOKES! Remember this is a very serious matter and the OP will tell us all off for messing about again... 🙃
B230ftw not laughing at all..sorry for slightly dumb comment to WF, anyway our eldest had birthmark one removed from her waist betwix belly button and hip, I had a bigun cut out by GP on my back busting stitches was the worst bit, I hope you get a good outcome
GP at my local health centre fancies himself as an amateur surgeon and runs a minor surgery clinic there. He's cut a couple of bits of keratosis off my head and back for me. To be fair he did a very quick and effective job.
Funnily enough I went to the doctors two weeks ago to show them a mole I’m
A little worried about. Seems to have grown in the past few years , it’s quite large in the upper centre of my back .
The nurse said it’s symmetrical which is good but it’s dry and has patchy dark areas so she has referred me. I’m waiting for an appointment.
Based on what I’ve read on this thread, Are they likely to just want to remove it to be sure?
They might. It may not be a mole though.
I got then to look at all my moles, but there were 3 i didn't like. 2 turned out to be moles and were removed (all fine) and one was a seborrheic keratosis which the doc said was no issue and didn't need anything doing unless it annoyed me
Can you lot keep having them removed, biopsying, processing, cutting sections & staining them helps pay my wages 👍
If anyone is in any doubt at all:Go to your GP.
I had a ‘mole’ spotted by the practice nurse at our surgery, it was in my upper back and she was using a stethoscope to listen to my chest when I had a mild chest infection.
I’d never eve seen this ‘mole’, but she didn’t like how it looked. Two weeks later I was having a second minor surgery as it was found to be malignant.
I was going to make a comment about not using explosives, as it makes a hell of a mess of your lawn, as does sitting on a stool in the dark with a shotgun and a torch, but thought better of it after a rather po-faced response. And fwiw I have moles, a few quite big ones, literally for all, or most of my nearly 67 years, and I’ve never suffered as a result. Trimming the hairs that grow out of a couple isn’t too much of a chore, I do it at the same time I trim my beard...
Re the comments about not bothering or definitely bothering your gp. I’m a gp. I’ve removed moles in the past but not from the face and not for a number of years.
The nhs doesn’t fund removal of benign skin lesions for cosmetic reasons. I’m not even allowed to refer you to a dermatologist for it removing on the nhs. Some gps probably still do it if you can convince them it’s causing symptoms such as pain etc. One of my colleagues now does our minor ops but it’s mainly cysts and skin tags as these tend to be more problematic. We can claim for some things but not “I don’t like the look of it”. Obviously a mole that has changed or you are worried about should be checked and gps are happy to do this. If in doubt regarding potential malignancy a fast referral to dermatology is to be expected.
