It was snowing 10 minutes ago.

About an hour ago, I popped out the back to feed ‘the pets’; fortunately only one bird feeder needed filling up, and the hedgehogs dishes needed cleaning and filling up, so about fifteen-twenty minutes, and it honestly felt cold enough to snow! Didn’t help I was wearing shorts, although I’ve been wearing a thick, heavy fleece hoody made for wearing over a wetsuit.

Just to add; 🥶🧣🧤☔️☃️

Had 3 dumpy bags of bark mulch delivered today. At 3.00pm I had to strip down to t-shirt (and shorts). At 5.00pm it was hailstones. By 6 I was back to t-shirt and shorts. My face is glowing with sunburn now but it's 1° and dropping now. April? Got to love it. North Cumbria.
15 tonne of gravel coming tomorrow, it'll piss down probably. At least it'll keep the dust down.

Glad I haven't put my winter riding kit away. It's around 2 degrees for this morning's commute.

Another frost here this morning. One of my friends posted some pictures from April a couple of years ago at the weekend - they were having a BBQ in tee shirts and shorts.

Yup, this time in Lockdown i was in the paddling pool with BBQs every night.... It's bizarre at the moment in terms of weather... I'd just like a few nice warm shorts and t-shirt days.

Interesting point in Brian's post. At this time of year (2 months before equinox) sun is at the same altitude as 2 months after = mid August and the sunburn risk is the same. Use sunscreen as if it was August, skin cancer doesn't care what the air temperature is.

That year was amazing weather. I did so much more riding.

It's actually sunny here this morning. But only 4 degrees and most places too boggy for a fun ride.

Probably should have bought a CX bike instead!

Think I'll go for a run instead.

It was incredible! Never known anything like it. And by some ridiculous piece of good fortune I'd just bought a road bike and was heading out every day on empty roads in warm sunshine.

My friendface memories chucked this up yesterday, from 3 years ago

I've been out for a walk this morning though and its absolutely glorious. Think I'll head out on the road bike this afternoon 😀

Yep, same here - the benefits of a very flexible WFH, no traffic and great weather meant I did loads over lockdown.
Was zero degrees here this morning and quite frosty. 🙁

I'll go out later cos it is quite a nice sunny day now - could just do with it being about 15 degrees warmer! Was wearing legwarmers and an insulated gilet on my road ride last night...

Regarding that 15 tonnes of gravel.
Frost last night but baking hot now in strong sunshine, no breeze. Slathered up either sun screen (thanks theotherjonv).

@brian2 - what are you doing with 15 tonnes of gravel? I can't be the only one who's intrigued to know?

…there’ll be a hose-pipe ban soon! 😬

Sky reporting Devon and Cornwall's hosepipe ban likely to be extended to December. I thought they'd sent an old news story out in error

The mistake I've been making is wanting to ride the bikes I sort of reserve for nicer weather, Absolutely drenched my nice road bike the other week, Covered my FS MTB in Mud last week. They're mean't to be reserved for nicer conditions
It just feels wrong somehow to stick to only riding my Gravel bike and Winter Roadie as we get this close to May...

Clothing wise, I've been layering up with Gillet, Arma and Knee warmers and contined using my winter boots on and off. I'm carrying an increasingly useless old "waterproof" that needs replacing, mostly I'm fine, I can deal with it being cold, I can deal with it raining but I really can't put up with cold rain.

The cold as well! Cold wind with rain showers with bursts of strong sun. After a long ride I'm both soggy and tanned 😆

I'm just hoping that the wind stays from the North East this weekend during my Badger Divide ride 🤞

I was wearing tights and a windproof softshell on Sunday's ride, I looked on Strava from last year at the same time and I was wearing shorts and short sleeve jersey. 🤷‍♂️

Ours are getting through 2 bowls every night at the moment. Too cold for insects, beetles and stuff, so not enough natural food?

My birthday is late may. In the 90s it would always be a toss up if it was shorts or longs for my birthday bike ride.

OP, yup, headwinds whichever way I’m going and a schoolboy error of switching to my summer wheels after a lovely sunny day a couple of weeks ago, now mainly sticking to formal cycle paths or good surfaces, if I wasn’t away for a couple of weeks I’d swap the wheels back. Ho hum, mind you as a true fair Scot I’ll be whinging and singeing after a few days strong sun. Add to that the nettles, brambles and wild roses are getting established.

I'm expecting to get some 'you lucky b****' pelters but we're turning from holiday in Andalusia tomorrow. The met office tells me to expect a drop in temperature of 28 degrees at Newcastle airport.

I expect the log burner will be on tomorrow night.

In other news we'll have 3 litres of duty-free gin so we might not even notice.

Lots of talk about El Nino on the radio this morning. Makes us have a particularly cold winter so make the most of the warmth when it gets here!!

Decided to head to the woods on Friday (Set Murphy) as I couldn't be bothered with the wind on the fells.

Nice and sheltered although a tree came down over the fire road climb between runs 😬

Yep the Weather around here is starting to get toasty, had the helicopter rescuing people with heat exhaustion on the Cabo de Gato the weekend.

I was having a nice romp around Garrucha the weekend and it was well warm but supposed to be warmer this week.

Easterly wind against me on commutes into work this week, testing me.. Testing my resolve to wear shorts too. In a sheltered area it's nice and warm but my commute is wide open straight roads with cars waiting to over take. Feels too cold for May.

Bit blowy last night but I just stayed on the lower half of the hill and enjoyed the hero dirt trails in my short sleeves.

Wish the forecast for this weekend was a touch less damp, but hey ho.

Yep the Weather around here is starting to get toasty, had the helicopter rescuing people with heat exhaustion on the Cabo de Gato the weekend.

Oh I had such a great holiday there, is it still as unspoiled as it was 15 years ago?

Sunday's actually looking dry and warm for northern England and Wales now, I think.

Make a plan and get after it.

Try working 50' up a scaffold on a castle up a wee hill with the wind for the past few weeks blowing off the North sea. It's a South Easterly this week compared to the North Easterly previous. I just watch the flag blowin in the wind , no need for a weather forecast

Another bank hol weekend... Mostly wet, including the expected day of deadly quiet roads on Saturday's coronation. FML.

My first job as a graduate civil engineer many years ago was a structural survey of Boothferry Bridge near Goole. We spent the winter months hanging under the deck knocking lumps of rust off and measuring the thickness of steel left. Similar winds blowing in from the estuary.

Looks like the pattern for the summer is set.

Any period of sun that lasts more than a day and the heat bubbles up all the moisture on the ground from Mar-Apr into multiple showers and thunderstorms.

The Met Office are becoming really crap too. I'm getting seriously pee'd off watching their expectation for a Wednesday evening (our group ride slot) get progressively worse through Mon, Tue and Wed then finally declaring 80-100% chance of rain - about 30 minutes before it actually starts - great forecasting, guys.

****.

We've finally had a settled week of weather here on the South Coast and some lovely hot sunny weather. Met office definitely struggling though at the moment as they keep predicting rain until about a day before then suddenly cancelling the rain.

They do the opposite in my neck of the woods.

It's the wind that's doing my head in at the moment. Feels like it's been constantly windy since about March. Varying directions but just constant.

One minute it feels like you're the greatest rider ever then you turn a corner and BAM, down to 7mph for the next 30 minutes, slogging into it.

Mine get three, but there’s no shortage of invertebrates, the little buggers are too spoiled and won’t forage for food unless I fail to put food out, in which case they’re forced to go and find their own. My garden’s overrun with slugs, snails and woodlice, but given a choice between those and dog meat in gravy, soft-centred cat kibbles and nice crunchy calci worms inside a nice dry box, it’s clear what they’re going to eat! I do like the fact that the starlings are acting as clean-up squad and clearing the dishes. There’s four new fledglings around now, I guess it’s only a matter of time before they’re in the box after the scraps.

Only part of the year i struggle with is the hot sun of summer. Makes it harder for me to breathe.

Wind and rain i seem to get on far better with. Must be all those years of sailing and camping out in the depths of winter.

My wife has been in Sorrento the last couple of weeks, holiday of a lifetime, unfortunately they've had the worse weather. Everywhere is flooded, ferries cancelled, she's not sure when the return flight going to happen either.

It's hit 20+ every day for the last week and a half here. Woke up this morning to 1 degree and snow.

And there was a tree down on the lane too.

Do I recall you're in the Gtr Mcr general area?

It has been unusually windy, I agree. Stayed on the lower part of the hill at Rivington yesterday eve, but it was gloriously dry and bright.

Had rain the other day near Cuenca, Spain. The fifth time I've seen rain since January.

Currently in Zaragoza and it's sunny, but windy. Night are a little cooler, but still using the summer duvet.

A few weeks back we were in Córdoba. 38°C in town. I nearly died. Nights were mid 20s.

Actually looking forward to sitting in the van during a big wet and windy storm.... Preferably with a bit of lightening thrown in.

Lovely up here ATM, Peak District is looking absolutely bloody lovely. Also all the narrow tracks are starting to become really overgrown. The vegetation is obviously loving it.
