Having great difficulty logging in to paypal.
Normally I do it internally - From my ebay account, link to paypal and as ever asks for the login details.
I put in the details and press log in.
Instead of going directly to the account it brings up an authentication page that sayss it needs to phone me(At my home phone number, with a 4 digit code for me to type into the phone.
"Calling" comes up but no phone call received. I try again and again says calling but no call comes through.
There are no other options. Its not a scam page, this is all linked through my ebay account link.

Flustered I google paypal, and from their site click 'having problems loging in, and it says to issue a new password. I fill that in, and it allows me to confirm that by text, phone or email - i choose email and instantly an email comes through with the code which i then type in.
Hit enter
This takes me to my account summary OH THANK F$£%. Ive a couple of hundred quid there and after this fiasco, decide its probably best to with draw it to my bank account.
Back to ebay and i see somethings sold a day or two ago, so as i didnt get the notification, or likely overlooked it, I again, linking through my ebay account to paypal, log in and lo and behold this damn authentication page comes up, again only option is for them to call me with a code, and again no phone call is received(this is on the home phone, not a mobile)
So after changing the pass and logging in and withdrawing to my bank it now wont even let me log in without this phone call.

I google login probs and get a bit about new EU directives 0 thus - "The Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2)" which also had a link on the authentication page, so the directive is a genuine thing. Came in sep last year but only rolled out now.

So without this call, which wont go through I have no access to my paypal.
As ive about 400 worth of buy it now on, and in case anyone buys anything, I feel im forced to cancel each and every sale. As if they do id have no access to those funds.

Googled that and it appears many are experiencing the same problem.
I now feel compelled to go tomy bank tomorrow and withdraw the bulk of the funds in there just in case it is a scam(which it isnt) but I dont feel safe enough not to, for prudence sake.
I was going to list this eve the CK Ti and a new hope headset, but the former will sell quickly, but leave me unable to access those funds so Im not going to bother.

Anyone else having issues ?.

You wont be alone -

No issues here at all. If I remember correctly I had to authenticate my account at a time many moons ago. Something to do with the amount going through the account, not that I was dealing with big money, I sold a bike and that put me over some threshold?

No problem here, I've done two Paypal logins this evening. I use a PC and have the 2 factor authentication via text to my mobile.

I was randomly forced to set a new password yesterday on paypal, no real reason given which is a bit concerning. I also got the 2 step verification text page come up twice in a row, but I was able to log in.

PayPal’s 2FA is a right ball-ache where I live as it can sometimes take days for texts to arrive and incoming calls rarely connect. I have to go outside and hope I get 1 bar of signal long enough or drive 2 miles down the road.

Not the same problem but the pop-up only works about 50% of the time for me. It "seems" to open, ALT/TAB shows me that it exists, but I can't get to it to log in.

Absolute pita trying to log in to PP using landline.
Started well on Saturday but no call to landline so pressed try again got a call but it didn't recognise the code they had sent.
After that it just kept trying to make me reset my password.
There customer service/chat is worse than useless.
If only there was an alternative that didn't require a mobile.

I've has issues with PayPal recently, only on one computer though (Mac/firefox). Basically, when paying for goods on a web order using PayPal it pops up like normal and requests a password, which I can give, then it goes to the page where you can select the payment option, I can see it start to load my name and address then it blanks and reloads, and again, and again in a never-ending loop of refreshing the page. It's particularly annoying as this is the final popup stage in a purchase so there's no 'back option'. All I can do is crash out of the checkout and start again. It all works fine on my phone/tablet.

Anyone else had this issue?

Same problem. Left it till tonight, then tried to log in only to get this 'authentication' page, which calls my landline, which doesnt work, so no log in possible.
Options it offers is to go to 'my profile' which again asks for a log in, and again goes to the authentication page and no call goes through.

Round and round in circles.

If I cannot authenticate, i cant use paypal, therefore i cannot buy nor sell on ebay, nor use paypal to pay for anything outwith ebay.

This can only mean the end of the ebay and paypal accounts. I'll try to phone them direct, but judging from the replies on here thats as useless as a chocolate teapot.

If I do get through I'll ask why they are forcing me to close my accounts, or maybe type out some proper correspondence and send it to whomever it concerns.
Useless bastards

I think, thanks to my it knowledge god nephew to have solved the problem.
They dont give a shite about your landline, what they really wanted was a mobile phone number and the young un has managed to find the section that allows that too be added without actually logging in.

After adding this mobile number, I now have three added, two landline which they were preventing from connecting and on mobile which they happily connected to and sent a text within 3 seconds.

Another family member who uses amazon had the same problem and all she thinks it wanted was her mobile number.

Time I think to get a new mobile.

Of course I've only logged in and then logged out again, so christ knows whats going to happen if i try to log in tomorrow. But thats enough for tonight. Heart surgeon has told me not to get too emotional as this is a bit of a trigger, so enough stress for one day I think.

Anyone else trying to get this authentication call to connect, add a mobile, have them send a text and I hope this works for you too..
.
I think im going to lie on the floor now.

Mariner sed> Absolute pita trying to log in to PP using landline.

A while back I had a long and fruitless conversation with PP on the subject of not everyone uses mobile phones a while back. Conform or die, apparently.

PayPal shouldn't be allowed to be a monopoly. If there was an alternative that gave the option to use a authentication app rather than a phone message I would switch.

Thats exactly it guys. During the attempts to get in they happily allowed an email to go to my addy to change the password, but as you say no option to do the same for this authentication code.

And the fact as to whether a mobile number is more a security feature than a landline is complete nonsense. I can easily buy a basic phone for a tenner, and that apparently fills the EU directive. How very very odd.

Indeed,conform or f off 😕

You can use an authentication app for 2fa with paypal. I use google authenticator . No issues and no phone call required.

Edit: of course in order to set this up you need to be able to log in in the first place. But for those that can I recommend it

yeah, exactly as vicksplace describes it is how I log on. There's a tick box for 'remember this device' for use on trusted computers which does eff all though, that's somewhat annoying. 😤
