As we have gone from lots of rain to heat it appears the nuptial flights of queen ants has started. A few reports in the south and creeping to the midlands. Has anyone got their eye on an ant nest or two? I’ve not collected any before but I’m hoping to find one or two mated queens to start off a few ant farms.
If you are new to it, hings to look out for are,
The weather, especially light winds
Lots of activity around a nest
The workers making a few exit holes bigger, to allow the queen through
Winged ants
If you are going to collect any, make sure the queen has dropped her wings, she will do this once mated.
Serious question. Why not just let nature take its cause and let them start their own colony?
They will. Starting an ant farm is also a good way to understanding and learning about them.

OP later this week.

Not really into ants at all, but I've watched a few of this guys videos. No ****ing way I'd be having any of that in my house.
