A bit of a moan really - Im bored of this awful weather, bored of feeling crap with this awful cold/flu/covid/whateveritisthatsgoinground that wont go, bored of no proper cycling on the telly (CX doesnt count...), bored of not being able to get out on the bike thanks to the above (havent turned a pedal for over 2 weeks), bored of TV full stop. Bored of constant sciatic pain. Just.......bored. Shoot me.
Yes it happens every winter. Though I have got into gaming on PS4 recently which is helping shred several hrs most days. I spent 10 days really ill recently and was too ill to game or concentrate on tele. That was really boring.
Aye me, just the weather mainly though. I’m actually looking forward to being at work on Thursday & Friday.
I’ve been out on the bike at some point most days but the local bridleways are a bog fest so I’ve stuck to the back roads. Borinnngg!!
#Metoo suffering muchly with cold/throat/sinuses. Can get out as crap and exhausted, can't read due to sinuses and can't wear my reading glasses. Bored as hell with TV, though it has helped me sleep a few times 😂 Not even really feeling hungry 😱
Yep, weather is just awful...and doesn't look like getting better for the rest of the week. Dark, cold wet and horrid...yuk.
No.
Had a drive out this morning. Had a coffee with my son. Bike ride this afternoon , bit wet and windy but manageable. Doing a bit browsing the web while enjoying a cuppa.
No bike riding at the moment - still rough after Covid in November. That said, I finished for Christmas on the 16th, and spent last week re-furbishing my 90's Diamond Back Ascent. I'd finished it by the 23rd, re-assembled, and just awaiting a new saddle, and to put the guards back on for commuting duty again.
Just chilling last few days watching Movies. We cooked for 9 on Christmas day and it was hectic. Time for Ghost Busters 2 after ET !
Been struck down with COVID again, managed a short but nice walk yesterday but now feeling feeble, was so much I wanted to get done this holiday too ☹️
The Goonies later on Ch5+1 as Ghost Busters 2 doesn't finish in time !
no, been out on my bike 4 of the last three days, off to a guitar lesson soon and working tomorrow. you just need to give yourself a push out of the door, even if it's just for a walk around the block. stop watching the telly and a walk will do your back much more favours that sitting in one position in the chair. \I have sciatica on a nd off and even if you shuffle round like an old man and it hurts, it'll be speeding your recovery a lot faster than sitting doing nowt
Had achilles pain last 5 days then xmas day flu cold aches kicked in , few pills yday and 1/2 hr in sauna loads of fluids to no avail , same level this morning, been watchin bikepacking clips on the tube and just finished one in norway , some snow here but dying get out on a ride even a walk , but nice heads up on goonies in 20 mins so thats sorted for next couple hours , hard to avoid all the bad food lyin around though 🙈
Nope - it’s great at this precise moment!
Everyone has sodded off home after staying for five days. Just the missus and me. Been for a very wet dog walk this afternoon and it was lovely. No one about and quiet everywhere. Didn’t see a soul.
Bored? Just spent 7 hours to do 210 miles on our wonderful motorway network.
How could I possibly be bored!
Nope, I wish this last forever but Not for the cold.
Nope. I’ve got a very high boredom threshold, so long as I’m comfortable, warm, got books to read, (and I have lots of books), I’m perfectly content. I’m inherently lazy anyway.
I’ve only worked three and a half days this month, I go back to work on the second, work four days then I’m off again for five days, thanks to how our shift system works.
Typical, managed to get a week off over Xmas and the weather is looking shitty all week.....please bring back the cold frozen weather....
Weather looking a bit yuk this morning, but heading out before it gets really yuk.
Spent last 4 days trying to be sociable at the in laws then with my family. That’s 3 1/2 more days than I can manage.
Apparently it’s not socially acceptable for a 48 year old man just to sit in the corner with his own thoughts (and a Nintendo switch).
Was bored shitless by the latter half of my second week of Covid recently, but it was so good when I could finally ride again. Daily dog walks were the main thing keeping me sane.
You should be good to go soon, fingers crossed.
Nope. I'm loving it. If I can't ride then I'll walk a few miles along the canal to a pub or wander the Ranges if they're not shooting or I'll be guitaring.
It's the Crimbo Limbo period, made worse if you can't get outside due to weather and/or lurgi.
Too wet to ride today, so nipping out with MrsMC for a couple of bits from a garden centre - we're that bored! - before heading to the gym around lunch time as it's reopened today, then some fettling of the gravel bike ahead of the clubs New Years Eve ride.
Forecast suggests a mucky road ride may be on for tomorrow.
I might be emerging from an awful bout of anxiety this past week, partly induced by boredom. I really don't like how it seems the daily 9-5 just masks this outside of holidays. Have done had a lot of catastrophic level thinking as a result and it's not pretty.
Well, I’m currently self isolating (and Friday or Saturday is my day 5), have been on my own (bar shopping!) since Wednesday last week so, yeah, I’m pretty bored right now.
I was supposed to be headed back to my home town to meet with my close family (and a couple of close/old friends) which was going to be the highlight of my ‘festive’ break...
There is only so much Netflix a person can watch....
I think I'd like to be more bored TBH, people seem.to keep wanting to do stuff when I don't.
Also:
CX doesnt count...
It bloody does, back to back CX racing, watching people who are far too motivated and fit knacker themselves, including a MVDP/WVA sprint finish bolloxed at the last second by a pedal slip?
Gaining control of the telly to watch CX has been the highlight of my week.
Need to get the mudguards and pannier rack on the refurbed 90's MTB today.
Not bored at all. So many jobs to do ahead of getting a wall knocked down in the kitchen in January. But still manage to pinch a few hours for a bike ride, or think about windsurfing if the wind is right and the air is warm enough.
Every time I wake up thinking I've got too many things to do I tell myself that it would be awful to wake up thinking I've got nothing to do.
Yep the same. Shite weather, bring back the cold!
Now have a plan. Well at least for s day or two. Today drag the kids to the Churchill War rooms. Short dog walk when we get back. Tomorrow a ride with Mrs BFW or a longer one on my own. Friday it’s set to rain all day again, and continue over the weekend.
Might have jet wash the paths down the side of the house. Living life to the full here…
I quite like the downtime this time of year, yes the days are dark and short, the weather (currently) rubbish, but having no real schedule day-to-day (and my work-place effectively shut down for 2 weeks) means I don't need to think about answering emails, or preparing school packed lunches, and all the other usual daily stuff. Instead I can go out with my kids, read stuff, listen to music, and generally faff about. I might even get out on the bike! All too soon it'll be back to the grind...
My 14 year old son is bored shipless - until this morning all 4 siblings were here, now the two oldest have gone home, and the youngest is at a friends house, and I'm working.
Noisy Christmas house switched back to normal house in the space of 2 hours. I'm sure he'll find stuff to do soon, but it's hard and sudden stop.
I remember that special kind of boredom of a Sunday afternoon in the 70s -
In the end, it was the Sunday afternoons he couldn't cope with, and that terrible listlessness which starts to set in at about 2:55, when you know that you've had all the baths you can usefully have that day, that however hard you stare at any given paragraph in the papers you will never actually read it, or use the revolutionary new pruning technique it describes, and that as you stare at the clock the hands will move relentlessly on to four o'clock, and you will enter the long dark teatime of the soul. - Douglas Adams
but I can't remember a time when I've been bored in the last 20 years. Occasionally fed up with someone, or some situation, but not really bored.
Yep, weather is just awful…and doesn’t look like getting better for the rest of the week. Dark, cold wet and horrid…yuk.
No such thing as awful weather, just a shit choice of clothing - I was out yesterday, rode from home and did 30 miles & 4400ft. Tomorrow we're off to the Golfie (just 30 mins away for me), it'll be gobbing but quality gear makes all the difference.
No such thing as awful weather, just a shit choice of clothing
Struggling to understand how putting on more clothing will deaden the cacophony of my shit XT 12 speed chain and cassette eating each other after I've ridden through my first puddle of the day 🙂
Winter weather blues innit.
Although I think it’s a side effect of the build up to Christmas ending with a gap to the new year, that weird no man’s land week.
I don’t do wet anymore since moving over to the Spanish DoomCave.
The Christmas markets started here today if you like Chrissy,
Trying to catch up with 30 years of techno heavy bass music for me can't be bored at all, I feel young again! LOL!
Currently listening to all the musics from Hell Driver, which I can say I like 95% of them. Then I shall proceed to others.
Boom boom boom boom ... retired colleagues thought I had a screw loose. LOL!
Nope, spent the morning learning RHINO (Cad design software) and the afternoon playing Gloomhaven (a board game) solo 👍 yes it’s wet n windy, but who cares 😂
Spent all day feeling miserable. By 16:00 my Mrs had had enough and basically told me to go out on my bike and stop grumbling, or she was going to divorce me!
The wind and rain was pretty extreme, especially at the top of the Trundle. The mud was deep and the chalk was lethally slippery, but blimey it was exhilarating to finally get out on the bike!
Gloves aren’t waterproof and this combined with the wind chill has made my hands and fingers go a strange colour
My wife hasn’t divorced me yet
She might do if she realises you're not wearing your wedding ring?!
I’ve relieved any boredom with a series of world record attempts
The record for the most cheese eaten in one sitting, the most red wine drunk by a single individual in a 24 hour period, that kind of thing
I laugh in the face of boredom 😃
Yep. I've been visiting the MiL and now on way back, have been stationary on A303 for nearly 90 mins now and traffic report says all lanes blocked, expecting to clear by 2230.
That's just great. Hangry kids in back, the way they are chuntering you'd think I'd caused it somehow.
retired colleagues thought I had a screw loose. LOL!
not sure how to break this to you...
Guards and pannier rack fitted to the restored old 90's MTB, and a new Charge Spoon saddle arrived today. If it stops raining, I'll go get it filthy tomorrow - chest much better. Not getting the FS or the road bikes filthy.
I attempted the red wine and beer drinking record on Christmas Day when cooking for 9. Didn't eat all day, started on beer as family arrived, but switched to red (a big mistake). Had to go to bed after I walked into the sparklingly clean french window door with the cheese board (who the **** shut it as we were eating in the conservatory) then managed to throw red wine over myself. Decided it was time to go to bed early.
The door is usually grubby as the cats put dirty paw prints over it trying to come back in.
Highways agency now revised to 2330
With 90 min drive once past the blockage
Super
+1
The kids brought a stomach bug into the house nearly three weeks ago. They had one night D&V, the wife and I had 10 days of nausea and diarrhoea. The weather has been bloody awful since getting over it. I'm on childcare duty tomorrow (which I enjoy) so no riding. Friday we are off visiting various family for a week. The next bike ride isn't for ages.
Used up some vouchers this evening, so have some bike shopping arriving tomorrow. That helps.
Not had the chance to be bored yet been back at work since the 27th, but not that fussed when its so grim out at the moment! Hope to get out on a ride Friday though, and have some full suss fettling to do.
Should be bored shitless after 4 weeks of virus and sinus infection (no riding since the end of November), then finally (and slowly) coming out of that only to develop some weird pain in my left hip that means even walking the dog is a miserable thing.
Between a bit of Christmas cooking, making sure I do at least one constructive thing each day (for example yesterday was checking and organising all my lenses into my new camera backpack after testing out my new vintage Zeiss glass, and today was getting out to buy some stuff for our big New Years Day meal with the in-laws followed by a bit of video editing), cherry picking some TV, and doomscrolling a bit, I'm managing to fend off complete boredom.
Still got some unbuilt Lego squirreled away, a bit of minor DIY to do, a few bits of bike maintenance to sort, the gas hob jets to service, and even a few books to read if I get proper desperate so ought to be OK until I go back to school on the 4th...
The not being able to properly get out and about on foot or bike is starting to get to me a bit though...
I’ve been visiting the MiL and now on way back, have been stationary on A303 for nearly 90 mins now and traffic report says all lanes blocked, expecting to clear by 2230.
Jeez 8 years in traffic, feel for you.
Nope not bored. Out in the west of Ireland, so biking and meeting with people, pub meeting people or home and meeting drop-ins. All comes crashing down when I have to go back to the UK today….but then there’s New Year’s Eve.
Yes it's Noddy morning / afternoon out but I generally find a potter somewhere outside improves things provided cold/flu/nasty bug hasn't got you totally tied in bed.
Find lots of jumpers, big coat and hat and get outside.
Assuming your forum name gives away your location ideas from me are:
Head into the moors for a short walk with a flask. 15 mins and you're away from the crowds.
Not got a car then get the train to Redcar and walk on the beach followed by coffee or lemontop.
Even pop down to see the plastic dinosaurs by Newport bridge or do the lap of bridges from the Barage.
Normally makes me feel marginally more human when I get back in.
