ooh...I'm making progress perhaps....

But, forever the student at heart, I like to explore ways of doing things myself..

I filed for divorce online (dead easy - just a few online forms) and saved £500 in solicitor fees that way.

Just wondering if anyon drew up their own financial settlement forms at all?

Will look at Wikivorce etc, but first hadnd from you lot is worth it's weight...

Cheers

Yep, I did when MrsIHN1 and I split. We agreed everything beforehand, wrote it down on two identical copies and each signed both copies. On the divorce forms themselves we then ticked 'Yes' in the "is a financial settlement in place" box (I think, I can't quite remember)

Ours was a very amicable split though and yours, well, you know, and our financial situation was pretty simple too, with no kids. Had any of that not been the case, it would have been trickier I would imagine.

I get the feeling the DISCUSSION and NEGOTIATION is the hard part..
We're kinda there now, so the WRITING OF THE DISCUSSION may be easier?

I'll have a look at templates and online forms.

I've asked my solicitor for a quote, but TBH I'm sore from getting buggered by all parties involved at present....

Yeah, can't be any harm in writing down what you think has been discussed, what has been agreed and any issues that are outstanding, and see if that matches what she thinks, and go from there.

**Quick edit - if one or other you took time off work and/or out of a career to look after children, you do have to be careful, as I think there are legal rights to things like a share of spouse's pensions

You wrote 'we split 50:50'

She wrote 'I get EVERYTHING'

IHN.. all that's included in the form..

I think there's a few headings; EACH had to be addressed.

We've discussed it and agreed in principle. Just need to legalise it on paper..

As I understand it the settlement still needs to go through the courts to have legal standing. It protects from lopsided settlements, otherwise it can be reopened.

Indeed... the court is needed to viewe the paperwork, but I guess there's nothing stopping ME making the paperwork..
