I'm looking for some ideas and inspiration, photos much appreciated and any tips before I start a project like this. It's just a small space, about 8ft high by 10 ft wide. Likely to be plain MDF which I could paint or veneered MDF. I can get this all cut to size by my local wood supplier.
I hacked together some pine wardrobes to do something similar. Hacking ikea stuff is another alternative.
A biscuit jointer is your friend. Makes constructing units easily without screws.
I designed mine and they were built by a carpenter.
Use of the space is so much better than anything factory built in wardrobes from b&q or the like. Used white painted MDF which has been fine.
The best thing for maximising height was using Hafelle articulated hanging rails which are superb right at the top of the cupboards, just pull down to access. Don't bother with cheap brands for these if you decide on some as they just won't take enough weight.
I bought 4 interior doors, for the princely sum of £20 from Wickes, because they were scratched.
I then built a frame, basically 3"x2" fastened to the floor, across the ceiling & down each wall. Then fixed uprights at the right width to match two doors, & a price across the tops tops. Then mounted the doors to create a pair of fitted wardrobes either side of dressing table with a shelf for a TV above.
Too about 2 days all in. I had planned on cutting the doors glueing in some strengtheners, & making split fold doors but there's enough room to open them.
I'll try & post a pic. The wife hates them, (I built them before she moved in), but at the time they were cheap but effective.
The cheap hanging rails were crap, so I replaced with thick yard broom handles.
