Thinking of going in Feb, is it worth taking a bike? Don't mind if it the road, cross or mtb but would like to get out if possible?

I'm not sure you're allowed free access to the land in the Sinai peninsular, and even if you were I wouldn't want to ride solo round there - it's very remote, and were anything to happen... Stick to diving!

Edit: in February it won't be that hot, certainly not too hot for riding. The access thing is UN policing coupled with Egyptian anti-terrorism legislation...

I cycled there from Cairo, took a few days. I explored some jeep tracks around Sharm, but not very exciting and may not be permitted now. You're within spitting distance of awesome reefs, make use, get underwater!

I wouldn't take a road bike, driving standards out there can be terrible, and the desert is not a place to cycle on your own - it can get scary quite quickly away from the town. I've rented a bike for an afternoon out there and tbh it was a waste of time. Sharm has some of the best snorkelling and diving in the world, best to stick to that imho.

When I was in Dahab there appeared to be a regular ride heading out each week. I think one of the hotels were renting MTB's or had an Activity day with MTBs each week.

MTB is more popular up in Israel, I bet if you head up to Elat there is riding around there somewhere.

The area's very big for windsurfing so I'd be surprised if biking wasn't an option for calm days at the windsurf resorts.

There is a reason you see mini-houses on poles at the roadside check points. Wild dogs in deserts are dangerous creatures, had a chat with group leader while on quad-bikes excursion, and he was ****ed racing away with the whole group from them.

You would hear stories of stupid or caught out soldiers who wasn't prepared for that, being torn apart by these dogs.

Snorkeling and

is the bestest thing in Egypt.

We did that quad ride in the desert... I see on that pic there are few not wearing helmets.. we didn't (STOOPID-we always do MTBing) my wife hit a jump, in low light it was hard to see, she launched about 6' into the air, landed the quad but then it flipped and landed on top of her. I was sure she was ded, luckily it landed with the seat over the top of her back.. just about the only point that wouldn't have severely injured her. She was cut and bleed and broke three ribs... not a nice flight home.
bit of preaching to the converted on her but, don't let your guard down on hols and forget to wear a helmet... AND ride within your abilities on the quad bikes, they don' manage a group in the same way hey would in the UK.
