In the market for a new (to me) phone, and eBay/Gumtree/Facebook marketplace seems like a bit of a minefield. There are a couple of branches of CEX in town with a range of phones. I know they'll be a bit more than the equivalent bought privately second hand, but is it worth it for a physical shop owned by a real company to take it back to if it turns out to have a problem immediately, plus the ease of going and looking at and walking away with said phone immediately (having researched online - kind of like the reverse of "showrooming"!).
Any experiences?
I bought a small folding Motorola phone to go in my jersey pocket when out on the bike. It was a little dearer than on ebay and about the same pricece as the cheapest payg phone from the high street retailers. It was in good condition, good battery and, as you say, you've got somewhere to go if it doesn't work once you've got it home.
Yes. Other half and I have both bought phones from them, I've also bought a laptop in the past.
Been very happy, 2 year warranty is great for peace of mind, especially now batteries tend to be non-removable.
Only gripe is that their idea of dispatched is "in a box" the email may come some time before it's in the hands of the courier / post office if buying from the website...
Bought my son's phone and a few other bits from here - referbs and very good:

Cex are pretty good though if you have the need to talk to a spotty nerd before buying (joke!) 😀
Yeah used CEX before, phone was fine.... but last time I bought new
Honor 9 from argos for £140
Not sure your budget or needs but I think its blooming brilliant ... looks alright too
Nowt wrong with CEX.
What's your budget?
I got my Pixel 2 from then about a month ago. Ordered on line and came next day, cheaper than similar on Facebook and eBay and a 2 year warranty. Went with a grade a and it looks brand new.
I have. Moto G?. Good service, phone was fine etc...
Sounds like not a bad option then, cheers.
Budget about £200. Decent camera is the main criterion.
Edit: and I don't really fancy having a phone any bigger than my current 4.5" job, but realise that may limit things.
Yes. It's great. I bought an Xperia Z5 B grade and it was like new but for some rub evident on the power button. Still going strong nearly 18 months later.
Eyeing up a replacement soon, no reason to pay 2 to 3 times as much for new IMO.
Yes. Bought a iPhone for a good price. 12 months guarantee.
We buy quite a few DVDs and blurays from there too. Older films for 50p make a cheap night in.
Yep good stuff. I've had a couple from there, some were blocked when I got them home but they swapped them no bother. You just pay a bit more than private. Got my current phone from music magpie, that's been good too. And a bit cheaper.
Game is our preferred reseller. The quality seems higher and the price better.
Look at Handtec too. Just got as new OnePlus 6 from there. Plenty of good phones in you're budget too
I've bought 3 Pixel 2 phones for myself and other people, one A grade and two B grade. All immaculate and about half of the new cost.
One arrived without a fast charger, but CEX quickly sent me one after I emailed them.
Cheers for all the tips.
Off to check out a C-grade Galaxy S7 in my local shop tomorrow lunchtime.
Anyone ever tried haggling in shop like that?
