Anyone "blacklisted" by DHL/UPS?

Had a recent order delivered and the vendor sent instructions to ask the UPS driver to wait whilst the items were checked... no returns accepted if this wasn't done. Driver not happy and objected, so goods unchecked, not signed for and returned. No swearyness, no unpleasantness, just placed back in the van.

Explained to seller what had happened who within the hour, tried to arrange a redelivery and a waiver on me checking. They then tell me that UPS wont deliver to my address.

My next order, delivered by UPS also goes back directly to the seller, so I'm thinking I'm blacklisted.

Anyone else had this and can it be undone to save everyone time and hassle with refunds etc etc?

Are you actually blacklisted, or has the driver just decided he can't be doing with your address? If you were blacklisted surely the system would prevent a retailer from scheduling a delivery in the first place.

PS DHL and UPS are independent of each other so unlikely that you are blacklisted on both.

A friend worked for a few years for UPS. When the pandemic began they went from around 60 drops a day to well over a 100 and it stayed that way. They also have timed drops and pick ups to try to stick to as well. He left before he killed himself or someone else trying to get the job done.

So I wouldn't be surprised that the driver had no time for someone who had no Idea of what they have to do in a day. It really isn't about not being arsed, it's about trying to keep a job and maybe even have some kind of a life. That friend was lodging with me at the time, I've seen what it does to someone

When I worked out of a DPD depot, if we had‘problem’ customers, we’d phone ahead of delivery and hold the consignment in the depot until it was clear that there wouldn’t be an issue with delivery.
The driver was quite right to act how he did. You could sign for it unchecked and rectify it with the sender if there was an issue but the sender had no right to insist that you inspect the goods there and then. Imagine that happening on each of the drivers 60/70/80 stops ?

Sounds like the vendor wants blacklisting. Check the outside of the parcel. If that is OK then the courier has done their job.

That's a very odd request from the sender - most terms of carriage won't allow you to open it until its signed for as its still the responsibility of the carrier at that point.

There is a car parts store that puts stickers to that effect all over the boxes. Not really viable though and I don't see the point as items can be damaged without obvious external damage. Just photograph any obvious external issues before opening.

Our heavy pizza oven also arrived with instructions to inspect inside the crate before signing. The driver was not impressed that I would not sign till I looked (fortunately only 4 screws and had the impact driver to hand ready).

Define "check contents" some more.

A glance at packaging and whip open top = fine.

Unpack, plug in and switch on a new PC while poor courier waits = not fine.

I’d agree that the responsibility of the courier is to deliver the package in good condition and not obviously damaged. It’s not reasonable to expect them to wait whilst you open and check the contents.

No it isn’t. It’s not yours to do that until you’ve signed for it. If you signed, asked the driver to wait and he consented, you can’t hand it back to the driver if there was an issue anyway. You’d have to arrange a separate collection for it.

They are "partners".

If that was a specific service which was paid for by the vendor then fair enough - do UPS offer a wait whilst checking service?

I think the vendor is being the unreasonable one TBH.

Not sure I’m blacklisted but we live a mile and half down a dead end single track lane and seems UPS just CBA bothering with us as last two parcels have just been dumped at the local drop off point at the newsagent in the village. Only found out by checking tracking when it was a few days overdue. DHL seem ok.

Goods were a set of steel winter wheels for the car. Only check would be that they were 15" not 16" and would have taken less than a minute (though the driver wouldn't have known that) but completely understand they are on a schedule for drops.

I'm also out to meet the driver before the van came to a stop so no doorbell ringing every time.

Can't understand why they may have gone to Defcon 1 straight away.

Awaiting a response to my Blacklist question from UPS....

dont know whether its the same with couriers / delivery services but with road freight your signature is proof youve received the goods in good condition, and trying to make a claim after usually results in the sender or forwarder saying youve signed for it clean no claim to be made.

Where does DHL come in to all of this?

I've had deliveries like that, usually for larger items like a washing machine. Perceived wisdom was to write "goods not yet inspected" when signing the receipt form. Whether the wording on the form or my subsequent scrawl actually had any legal bearing on anything, I do not know.

Not any courier specifically, but I've had parcels arrive at work with bloody great holes in the side and the couriers are extremely reluctant to sign as damaged. Not sure if they get a reduced fee for damaged parcels?

And now you don't sign for anything you have no idea if they marked as damaged or not!

I know a few of the drivers who work for big reputable names not evri or the other one.
The drivers are under HUGE pressure it's a race to the bottom that even the big companies have fallen into.
Basically driving around in a big van with your boss constantly telling you your not fast enough via a handheld tracker. No loo stops like office folk or breaks.

i’m sure i remember from about 20-odd years ago when shopping mail order that retailers of perhaps couriers stated that you needed to check for damage before signing for the delivery.

i think these days this sort of thing is covered by the distance selling regulations.
