Walking not biking I am afraid. I am thinking of this for next years summer hols and wonder if anyone on here has been trekking ie multiday walks camping or using mountain huts in the area.
Any clues? Areas to go to? Websites with routes? My googlefu is weak on this one
Thanks
I've been trekking in the Carpathian mountains in Romania/Transylvania. We stayed in Brassov as a base. The scenery is absolutely stunning, and the peeople are lovely. Its got a very Alpine feel about it. Theres loads of history and stuff to see - going visiting Dracula's/Vlad the Impalers castle is a must. Its a pretty imposing landscape.
Sod staying in huts though! Its cheap as chips to stay in decent hotels. The hotels in Brasov were built for the soviet politburo to stay in so they're quite grand
I Really enjoyed it. I'd definitely recommend it. We then got a train down through the country to the Black sea resort which was a playground for Russian Oligarchs. Without doubt the most insane place I have ever been in my life! A real eye opener

Our neighbours went hiking in Romania a year or two back. They loved the scenery but did say the food was pretty awful. Can't recall exactly where they were, but given their age am sure they were in hotels rather than huts.
I wouldn't blame you if you responded RTFQ, and in the spirit of recommend what you have......
how about Georgia? Cheap, friendly and absolutely stunning.
Ducks....
We were also looking at Georgia 🙂 However for a series of complex reasons not for this year
Bumped for the daytime crew
Similar to BinBins, we stayed in the Carpathian mountains near Brassov (actually nearer Bran/Zarnesti). We rocked up at a little Pension/B&B place, basic room, homecooked food, incredible view from the room, about £20 a night. Absolutely stunning area.
Been walking and biking in a few places in Romania over the years.
As a good hub for days out Brasov is really good as binners says, also fairly nearby is the Prahova Valley and the ski villages of Sinaia, Busteni and Predeal - all have good train links from Bucharest and doorstep hiking plus some cable cars to get up onto the mountains behind. There are quite a few brown bears in the area which is something to be aware of at least, never seen any bears tho' but seen lots of paw prints.
Sighisoara is a nice area too - again nice historic town, its more rolling hills rather than the mountains behind Brasov, but still pretty country.
Towards Hungary is the Retezat National Park, I've only been there once and that was over 15 years ago but it felt a lot more wildernessy than around Brasov.
Ta folks
We want to do a multiday walk of perhaps 100 miles or so rather than day trips but that does give us some clues about where to go
Anyone know are there a network of mountain huts like in solvenia?
Take a tent. The bears are scared of tents
Bears don't scare me - I survived the scottish midge!
My wife is from Brasov! I visit the place at least once a year.
I've done some day trips but no serious hiking. It's really beautiful countryside in places. I'll try and find out if she knows of any online resources for planning hiking trips in Romania
Transylvania is an amazing place. We went on an organised tour around the Saxon villages near Sighisoara. Picture perfect rolling hills and plenty of paths, though even the roads don't see more than a few cars.
Would definitely recommend it. Georgia is also on our list!
I stayed near Basov last year. Some amazing walking in Transylvania.
I stayed here http://www.booking.com/Share-FRyh9u
and stayed in a hut on the way up to the tops. Very busy.
