We’re heading there soon, like after a long hold at Leeds Bradford airport probably, but hey.
Looking for recommendations for local food & drink.
Tapas, seafood, food markets etc.
Biking not included, that’ll be October.
Also any sightseeing not to be missed, we’ll have a car.
Thanks!
I did spend a night there years ago and the only thing I remember are the caves. They’re ace, go to the caves.
Stayed at Frigliana which is just up in the hills behind Nerja. Some nice local restaurants up there.
Yes we rented a villa there in March for a few nights with friends. There are heaps of restaurants and lots do free Tapas. Sevillano was one place we failed to spend any money on food and left very full and great atmosphere. We also went somewhere off the main drag for a proper meal that was really nice and less expensive than the ones in the main area but I can't remember it's name.
Nerja is pretty touristy so if you have a car definitely get out into the hills /mountains and visit some traditional white villages.
Málaga is only a 45 minute drive away and has the most amazing covered market. I was like a kid in a sweetshop there. Full of locals on a Saturday standing up at the various food bars eating raw/cooked seafood of every description and drinking vermouth. So vibrant and better than any London Market experience.
mother dearest lives 45 mins away. pleasant town but very touristy. i would recommend visiting periana up in the hills, mondron has a great spit and sawdust restaurant, the saturday and sunday lunch is amazing.
el charco is also a great restaurant. i had goat in almond sauce with Barry Chuckle there.
As the Costas go, it’s really not that bad. All good suggestions above. As you’ll have a car, get the Lonely Planet guide to Spain or the Time Out Andalusia book and pick somewhere in the hills to explore/ visit.
I'll echo the tapas comments above, though I can't remember the best places.
It is touristy but still a lovely place. Caves are cool and worth a visit. There's also some really nice walking around. We walked to Frigliana where we had amazing food. Walked up the Mountain just behind the town, long day but amazing views. Best by far was the walk up the river, actually in the river. Very nice.
Actually... I'd probably go back
As the Costas go, it’s really not that bad
I can't think of any of the Costas that's actually bad - they all have their tourist shitholes, but if you avoid them (and the big plastic covered agricultural bits) the rest is fine.
We went a few years back, got lots of good tips on here -
Standouts were the walk up the Rio Chillar and Jules' restaurant. 🙂
i had goat in almond sauce with Barry Chuckle there.
That must be the most random thing I’ve read in a while!
Great stuff! Will get the Lonely Planet book as wer’e driving down to Estepona for a month in October, with bike.
A friend has had a villa there for years and they always head to AYO's on Burriana beach, for authentic Paella and fresh sea food. Its been there since 1969 and probably hasn't changed much, which is how the locals seem to like it.
Been for a few nights. Got recommendations offSpanish Air b b host as to where to eat had some great meals. Caves! Easy bus trip from town. And yep Malaga market beats anything the UK has to offer in terms of food and atmosphere. It’s just normal life there.
Actually goat in almond sauce with Barry Chuckle is the best thing I’ve ever read on here! Hats off to you and Barry!
haha cheers it was memorable
Another for Frigliana and not too far to Alhambra in Granada and Ronda worth a visit too.
I think a day in Granada's definitely worth the trip. The Alhambra is astonishing, lots of decent bars and restaurants etc and a nice vibe generally. Cooler than it is down on the coast too. The various white villages get a bit touristed, but are pleasantly scenic. The mountain biking's good too, but you don't want to know that 😉
Howsyourdad1,I hope the plate went backwards and forwards!
You could take a spin up to the Caminto del Rey at el chorro (if you’re good with heights!)
