Other half suggested this as a family holiday destination for next summer.

Any experiences to share?

Wondering how necessary car hire would be to get the most out of it.

Can't help but notice how close it is to Finale Ligure...

Its nice but lots of old folks  the train and buses run along the coast and Monaco, Ville france sur mer, Nice  Antibes and Canne are all worth a look. Isle saint margurette is also very nice.

In Nice use the Tram to get about.

Be warned its an expensive part of the world and dont go near the trains or buses at commute time.

Not sure a car is worth it for more than an odd day, its pleasent inland but not much to see.

We called into the Serre de la Madone last year for a morning after having stayed for a couple of days in Cap d'Ail specifically to visit E-1027 and Le Cabanon. The gardens are pleasing to walk around, and E-1027 is well worth a visit.

^^ Sospel, better for walking and cycling, sight-seeing by train, in reach of Nice for a touristic day out
