Not for riding just for hols, seems like they are trying to encourage tourists again, if so did you go on a tour or DIY?
Ta
My dad went in the 1940's.
Organised tour.
Said it was a bit of a bombsite, but the people were lovely.
Hmm Rusty I guess that was a working holiday!
🙂
There was a thread on this a few months back, to which I replied.
I did DIY. See other thread for more info 🙂

My grandad too. Food was shite, apparently, and he ended up getting dysentery!
But seriously, there was a good article in the NY Times recently about how to go and how to minimize government spending.
Konabunny good article, cheers
Went a few years ago, thought a lot about whether to go or not but decided that as long as I supported the government as little as possible, the appearance of external visitors would be a step towards opening up the country. The people were fantastic, friendly and welcoming more that anywhere else I visited. The country has so many places to see and experience I am planning to go again soon.
The down side was that it was clear that they were an oppressed people. Only one person (an elderly monk) would speak about politics with us.

Easy to go DIY.....can't imagine why anyone would use an organised tour (ever)
My grandad, went awol and shot a fella for a pack of smokes. Died slowly of a smoking related illness.
Fate I guess.
FoF is on an organized tour there now and is loving it. If one had the cash, I can see the attraction.
Just reading 'Finding George Orwell in Burma' by Emma Larkin actually, very interesting read and its scary some of similarities between (1995..) Burma and some of Orwell's books.
Can't say its persuaded me to go but I was never a very adventurous traveller anyway...
