As per title, anoyone have any experience of diagnosis of Dyspraxia as an adult.

I've been misfiring (mentally) for a few years and now i've had time and taken stock of situations i've been through, scenarios I find myself in and other issues such as an inability to throw myself at new tasks, Dsypraxia absolutely stands out like a sore thumb to me.

I've contacted doctors to start some tests but the more I research this the more I actaully for once in my life feel that i've seen a task through and come to a logical conclusion.

What do you hope to gain from an official diagnosis? If you feel it fit then look up techniques to help and try them.

This is from someone with a few "official" labels and some "heis probably ". Life is about learning what works from you and me of having an official diagnosis doesn't stop you from trying these techniques.

Self diagnosis isn’t necessarily very helpful. I know a young lady, my friends daughter, who is confirmed with dyspraxia but also dyslexia. Both require distinct ways to cope with them and can be quite nuanced in the way they affect daily life. There’s different ways in which they can manifest themselves so I would seek out an official diagnosis but don’t assume you’ve got x or y until a professional assesses you properly. They should then provide techniques to help you manage it which will be specific to you.
You might not have it at all, it could just be personality traits, so don’t put that label on yourself until you are sure.

so I dont do this...

My sytmpoms could be put onto a venn diagram that would cover about 4 very distinct conditions, so I'm keen to hear experiences of Dyspraxia as it covers the majority of the major symptoms I suffer with.

As stated above, I'd rather a professional confirm it in the right manner.

Not a direct comparison but I was diagnosed dyspraxic at about 6 or 7, dyslexic at 20ish.

In the later instance it took until then for it to be picked up as I'd developed coping mechanisms, really the main benefit of diagnosis was being allowed to use some of those mechanisms in exams, as an adult in day today life the diagnosis changes little to nothing.

The dyspraxia saw me visting a specialist once or twice a week for a couple of years and saw me progress from not being able to stand properly, through walking unaided into lamp posts to eventually being able to write (not well and not easily, a big part of why my dyslexia wasn't obvious). Really I spent years learning to work around it and I still do the occasional walk into a tree, every third door frame, fall off curbs here and there, can't tie knotts or reliably tell left from right but the reality is that day to day its about coping mechanisms (don't write, type instead, don't do jumps on my bike, leave bigger gaps in traffic etc) and, what works for me may not work for you but, as above, I'd think as a functioning adult you're better off forgetting the diagnosis and skipping forward to the methods of dealing with it which are readily available to read about.

My friends daughters dyspraxia manifests itself as behaviour in social situations, inability to do certain mental tasks (and getting frustrated when it happens) but not any severe physical issues.
I suppose there’s a lot of other medical issues someone might have that can be mixed up with dyspraxia so getting checked out thoroughly might show up something new your non-trained mind would never think of - and why we have doctors!

I'm dyslexic but I do have some dyspraxia traits.

It's my excuse for failing off my bike...

As an adult I'm not sure what a proper diagnosis would offer you?

I was diagnosed as a child. I recall seeing a physio a fair bit. I then pretty much forgot about it for years.

As an adult I found a booklet describing the condition. It was pretty depressing to read all the symptoms which described much of my character. In practical terms it was not much help. One thing is I am not so hard on myself. As despite being talentless, clumsy and finding it increasingly hard to hold a single line of thought, I have done alright for myself.

The label doesn't matter, just look at the coping strategies for the symptoms you have. Try them and see what works.
