Looking to stay near Elsworth, Sussex.
Most of the sites are CCC and all are a lot more expensive than the 'prices from'. I'm trying to work out if it's worth joining or not.
Coombe Leigh is a CCC certified but with loo (perfect for us).
Can anyone check cost from 1st April - 4th April 2025? I cannot as a non member.
Sorry, that's Emsworth.
It seems to be £19 per night for (up to) 2 adults & 2 children. Booking is by phone call though so it could be seasonal pricing and there's no way to find out without calling.
Cheers - have you got a number?
I'm finding Sussex on bank holiday weekend is ferocious on cost (unsurprisingly) and minimum stay Friday-3 nights, when we had hoped to just do Thursday - Saturday. It's connected to work travels with no choice on dates...
@matt_outandabout as you're not a CCC member so I assume not planning on using any member benefits, have you had a look at Pitchup com?
We're Caravan and Motorhome Club members and have found a few sites through pitchup that have been better value than C&MC sites where we've wanted to go recently.
We would join if needed for this break, and hope we might use them again. But there's only 12 CCC sites in Scotland, and some of them have no facilities. We've managed a year without joining CCC or CMC, but will do so if that is needed to get a site.
Getting a price on the other ccc sites locally is showing all are significantly higher cost for this weekend and high season than shown as the 'from' price.
We joined when we did a few years using their ReadyCamp locations - the membership/renewal was less than the saving on the first booking so it made sense for us.
I was a member but struggled to make it work as sites were still comparatively expensive.
Best ones were the smaller affiliated sites
As burko73/rockbus says the small CL sites are worth looking at. When my folks had their van they mainly stayed at CL sites and I think you need to be a CCC member to use them. Maybe consider adding these in to your decision about whether or not it’s worth you joining.
We've swayed between the C&C club & the C&M club. I think the C&M is best value for us despite the C&C being more family friendly.
Generally the discount we get on ferry prices & breakdown cover more than covers the cost of membership. We find the C&M has more CLs in Scotland which is useful.

Expense it and damn the cost? 😉

Work is paying two lots of hotel stay and travel costs, each side of these few days.
I'm taking some holiday in an efficient manner for a few days, saving me travelling back to the north and then returning south a few days later, and enabling us to see some friends locally on south coast....
Have you got the dates right above? 1st April is a Tue, and not near a bank holiday.
1st - 4th May....oops
I can't see a Club site at Emsworth, but there is one at Crowborough. A quick check for a Van with electric hook-up for 4 nights (as a member) is £85. This is a grass pitch, no awning. 1st to 5th May.
Does that help?
Family member runs a site north of Brighton, but crikey it is expensive for a basic site. £25 per person per night!! CCC site is a bargain.
Indeed campsites on the south coast on a bank holiday weekend are rather steep in price and most are rather large... I think having only booked sites in Scotland, NI and Ireland last year we are rather spoiled by smaller quieter sites and reasonable cost generally...
As burko73/rockbus says the small CL sites are worth looking at.
I'm not a CCC member, but CAMC, and from what I can tell the CL network is pretty similar. These are the only reason I joined CAMC because they're far better than big sites, often in outstanding locations, and far cheaper. I am considering switching to CAMC at some point to go through a different set of CLs.
We used to operate one Caravan and Camping - and low key was definitely the way it worked. A trench for emptying your bog and a fair walk to a tap in the farmyard. Had lots of regulars and it was great fun when the Springtime in Shropshire orienteering was on.
A great way to make friends if you have a farm - which can be quite important, its a lonely life sometimes.
Regarding the small sites (CL's & CS's).
The CAMC locks down the access to the sites quite tightly, the minority seem to have their own websites etc. Viewing the relevant details for CL's is also difficult without an account.
The CACC however is quite open, it is easy to see the details for the sites and the majority seem to have their own websites and promote holidays outside of the clubs control. So you can easily browse the club website without an account find places that look nice then do a quick web search to contact them and book a holiday directly.
Both clubs are expensive IMO for their own sites but I tend to find the CACC to be a bit higher although the locations are often superior.
You can browse CAMC CLs without an account, it just won't show your the phone number unless you log in.
The difference is that the CACC CS's are more geared up to working as independent campsites with their own websites.
In my experience the CL's are far more likely to insist on a membership number and rarely advertise outside of the club website

Tis a legal thing. The C&CC certified sites are members only and limited to 5 pitches. It avoids the need for planning as you are camping privately as a member of a club.
I think that's how it works anyway.
