We've got FTTC with BT and have been using the supplied HH5 for about 6 or so years, but we're getting connection and occasional wifi issues.

I have a new FritzBox sat here and I'm wondering if I can use that instead. Has anybody gone down this route[r]?

Not tried a FritzBox but I've been using the same HG612 Openreach modem for more than ten years now without a single hitch. This handles the messy bit of talking to Openreach infrastructure and then any convenient router can sit behind it (Google Wifi for me).

About £20 on eBay, easily unlocked to show detailed line stats if you want them.

Fritz box should be fine. You just need your username and password for your BT account.

Ahh, I should have qualified the 'connection issues' - it's devices connecting to the HH rather than router/line connection!
Plus I've got two HG612 and yes they're very good - but I'd rather try the router I've got here first

Might be helpful to give the fritzbox model number, I believe they do both adsl2 & cable versions, though as you have the HG612 then you simply use that as your modem if you have the cable router fritzbox

I have been using a fritzbox with BT for years. It works better than the BT supplied router. In the connection settings I have:

VLAN-ID: 101
DSL/ATM Settings:Set manually:
VPI: 1
VCI: 32
Encapsulation: PPPoE

I have Fritzbox but I am not with BT so not sure how that works.

Having said that I am very happy with my Fritzbox and I may buy another one as a backup in future.

@ taf

Could you confirm that the username you've got is bthomehub@btbroadband.com ??
I keep getting a failed DSL connection error but it's all new so should be OK

I used a TPLink when I was with them, worked flawlessly.

Ah, never mind.... Sorted!

It's way better than the HH5 😁
