Want t put some ceiling speakers in. I a building my bike-wet-shower-room and workshop. So I have wired 4 speakers in each room (so 8 cables) going back to where I can have an amp. I want to put a Sonos amp there. Rooms are 4mx2m ad 10mx5m.

Now I have come to buy some speakers the choice is bewildering. I can pay between £30 for a set of eight right up to £400 each!

What do I need? I was hoping to pay not much more than £100 for the eight as I am asking.

How do I wire/configure them into the Sonos (they are one per corner in each room)

Ta

Maybe look at car door speakers, alpines, kenwoods and the like.. Possibly more suited if there's limited space?

Although your not going to get great speakers if you want 8 for a hundred, I'd consider a stereo pair of better quality in each room. Or at least in the smaller room.

Have loads of room (in the ceiling void).

No idea how to connect them, all those ohms and things

Why do you want so many? Like anything you get what you pay for.

In theory they should be cheaper than conventional speakers (no box) but they sell in much smaller quantities so price higher.

Buy some name brand ones on eBay if you want cheap quality. Monitor Audio don't command the premium that B&W do

I have two in the kitchen (6 and 12 o clock positions to give some stereo effect when sitting at the table/in front of the cooker) and two in the dining room (diagonal opposite corners which is meant to provide more even sound).

Bedroom just has some small hifi speakers on the wardrobe, main hifi speakers in the lounge.

Final addition is a two channel single ceiling speaker for the bathroom and I can then play tunes across all the main rooms.

Everything is run off a 15 year old Sony Hifi through a 8 way speaker switch. All the audio buffs will suck their teeth but the Hifi Amp hasn't popped in a couple of years and we are detached so it does get cranked up every now and then on all 4 pairs of speakers! Either FM radio or Spotify via a Chromecast.

Back to the speakers, I'd avoid car ones, aren't the ohm values often different to home speakers? I went with moisture resistant 6.5" jobs about £20 a pair. Sound is better than expected.

I think four per room is a bit overkill. Start with two and add more later if needed?

I have similar set up in my kitchen. 2 ceiling speakers into Sonos Amp. You will need a bridge as well (if you haven't already got one!). Went with Cambridge speakers, awesome quality but not waterproof......
Amp attaches to a plate on wall with black and red speaker wires. Speakers are wired into back of plate, chased into wall. Hope this makes sense.

Marine grade flush mount speakers for boats would be a durable if expensive wet room option.

sounds like just buy some and see how it wires and sounds when I try it!

I already have 7 Sonos appliances so adding another amp should be simple.

I've got 4 BluCube-CXCL-650-Speakers - in my kitchen ceiling running off a Sonos ZP120.

Decent speaker cable running from each speaker back to the Sonos.

Room is 11ft by 20 with 10ft high ceiling - its enough to get the room seriously rockin while you're cooking!

Oh yeah - lambswool insulation in the ceiling void as well makes it sound better.

I put a cheap pair of Ebay in my bathroom.

I think I paid about £30 and they are apparently water resistant.

They sound fine, I mainly listen to the radio through them and power them with a small, cheap Tripath amp.

As above, I'd suggest going with 2 higher quality speakers per room over 4. If there room isn't that big, a single stereo speaker may even be suitable.

Ohms wise, most amps can do either, but for a weaker amp you would want something easier to drive so you aren't pushing the amp too hard when you crank the volume up.

I can't recommend any budget ones unfortunately as all the ones I've heard are about £80+ each.
