Hi

We need (*well the mrs does), to replace some vertical hanging tiles with cladding (sort of plastic plank look). So far I’ve only been able to get 1 quote (which was more than I expected), chasing others but nobody is getting back, so I was wondering if anybody had similar done and what sort of money it was.

Thanks

Is this internal;  going over existing bathroom tiles for instance? Or is it external cladding, like soffit and frontage?

I had one side of our house clad with Marley Cedral (if that's what you mean) about 5 years ago and have been extremely happy with the result.

I'm on my phone though and I'll need to look on my PC for more info for you and that's not happening today!

It’s external cladding, the mrs isn’t keen on the brown hanging tiles and the tile company have changed the tile, same colour but the hanging lugs have moved from the top of the tile to about 20mm down so they look stupid if you add a new tile to an old run of tiles

Just want to get another quote but over 5 no responses from localish suppliers.

Cheers sharbait.

What kind of companies are you contacting ?

I have plans to replace my hanging tiles on the dormers with upvc cladding because the tiles rattle almost all winter in the wind + will allow me to put significant insulation behind and new membrane etc.

I'd be looking for a joiner or general builder. I would not be contacting a cladding or upvc installer.

I’ve got a quote from a locally recommended roofer , I’d like some other quotes just to cross check.

I would think it's pretty diyable if that's something you are minded to

BTW one solution for the newer tiles having different fixing points would be to put new batons on where you want the new tiles.  I imagine a bit of a faff to get it lined up but can't be difficult.

I also have a tiled bay that at some point in the distant past had someone repair and fit wonky batons so my tiles have a distinctive droop.  I thought it was a simple matter of refixing but it's the actual batons in the wrong place....

also have a think how your house might look vs the others on your street   we have one house thats gone american style composite cladding and it looks out of place and pretty bad

Typically diyable but access is usually the issue. Factor in a mobile tower hire or similar when pricing your options

I have fitted most forms of cladding including cement board and composite. Both on large new build housing estates and one off houses. To give you a idea of cost per m2 more details are needed . Material being used, area to be covered , scaffolds etc.  Fitting cost change if its horizontal or vertical due to nature of trims and setting out. If you have more info I could give you a ball park figure per m2 cost. Cedral for instance is around £60 m2 plus scaffolds if that helps.

To be honest it is diy able, it's all in the setting out and trims.

Where are you based?

Based in Oxfordshire, I’ve seen m2 costs online and this quote is a fair bit more (but there are 3 separate walls and above one wall there are two dormers, so the 4 sides of them as well, which is a bit more fiddly)

If it was me I would find a local carpenter to come and give you a price. I'm not local to you unfortunately. I'm not doubting your roofer but most roofers I know would do an average job of it.
