As above really. I can not remember the last time I felt fit and well. It’s really getting to me because I’m not exercising, which I really need to keep myself sane!

I have typical cold symptoms, but it has been lingering for I’d say about 6 weeks. I’ve tried vid d, c, zinc, garlic, apple cider vinegar, but it’s not worked.

What remedies would you turn to when man flu strikes? Or is it time to visit the docs?

Had a 24hr "cold" at least once a week for months now.
This weekend it's lasted 3 days though!

No rhyme or reason to it that I can figure.

Extreme runny nose and sneezing then usually gone the next day.

So fed up with it

Yep, same here.

I was beginning to nurture a fear about it being 'jab' related.

Same. Bronchitis at he beginning of November which morphed into real flu mid-end of November, started to clear up last week but I’ve spent the whole weekend with a heavy cold blowing yellow slime out of my face. All of this has been with a background cough.

Pretty fed up of it tbh.

Fairly low level but yes for at least 1½ months. Daughters have been the same. GP suggested they are seeing lots of back to back viral infections this year.

I used to be prone to this, a heavy cold followed by several weeks of a hacking cough and sticky mucus. Check the NHS site, if its persistent they may give you antibiotics but I didn't really want them. I do wonder if constantly blowing your nose puts you back a bit by forcing mucus into your sinuses. My wife just sniffs/wipes and seems to get better much quicker than me!

However, since having three covid vaccinations, and a flue jab for the last two years (encouraged/paid by employer) I've had a couple of shortlived colds (and caught covid earlier this month) which was very mild.

Yep
Had a cold, then another, then suspected COVID, then catarrh for a few weeks with painful sinuses and now another cold today

I'm the opposite, I've not been ill (apart from Covid and side effects of the Covid jab) for 2+ years.

What some are describing here sounds like an auto immune thing. Could it be Covid related?

Or stress related?

If you're off over Christmas, maybe use this time to get rest, regular easy exercise with wholesome nutritious meals all without the stress of work.
Maybe you're just run down and need a rest.

Couple of good points there from didnthurt:

1. He’s perfect and so is his life.
2. This sounds a lot like it might be your fault. Have you considered trying a bit harder to be perfect?

As for slothenly me, I think I’m at one bout of strep throat, two inner ear infections and three separate colds in just the last month. Must try harder to relax.

That’s not what he said at all.

Being over worked, over tired and stressed, can lead to repeated cold like symptoms, that doesn’t mean that’s what we’re feeling but in my case it’s 99% likely.

I'm really pleased you posted this because I'm suffering from exactly the same thing and was lying in bed last night in a puddle of my own snot and sweat worrying about it. I think I'm catching up on three years worth of missed colds.

Broke my nose several times when I was younger resulting in my left nostril being very narrow at the best of times. Central heating often dries my nostrils up. Also developed hay-fever in my fifties. My nose is blocked or running more often than it is clear.

Sounds just like whenever I visit a big city when the the air is polluted, how many of you people live in polluted areas?

Not lately, but twice in the past I have had lingering coughs that lasted for 12 weeks after an initial bout of cold/winter bug.

About 8 years ago I was constantly feeling unwell and rundown (for at least 6 months, maybe a year+), and frequently had colds, headaches, toothaches and other illness. Various tests and checks revealed the toothache feeling to be the result of frequent sinus infections. The rundown feeling was because of poor sleep where I was waking myself up many times a night with my own snoring/choking.
Everything was due to nasal polyps, which completely blocked my nose when laying down.
Polyps removed, no more constant colds, no more headaches, no more catching every blimming bug doing the rounds.

Yep. Pretty much narrowed it down to a weakened immune system due to covid/2 years of isolation, and now the usual back in the office autumn/winter sniffle season allied to being tired and run down. Thus constantly fighting bugs but not quite winning.

Could quite easily be allergy/auto immune...
This time of year mould spores... (or covid jabs even)

That must surely increase your susceptibility to upper respiratory infections?

Can you not have corrective surgery as in the case of people with deviated septums?

Indeed we are...
People hid away with masks on for years, and now the viruses are all 'new' to us again... Cold, followed by cold, followed by cold - pretty normal TBh...

I used to have an annual cold which had all the symptoms of covid. Lasted all through Nov, Dec & Jan. Horrible cough, lack of energy (I would struggle with 100yard walk to car at end of working day). Struggle to breath and making myself sick trying to do anything. I reckon it happened 2 years prior to covid and the covid year. I had x rays for chest issues, asthma tests, antibiotics and steroids. Nothing touched it and i hated the winter months.

Then Covid happened. I had the jabs and nothing since. Not a hint of anything. I am exercising more now than in the last 20yrs. I havent had a cold or a day off work for ages.

Likewise, I'm about 6 weeks behind seasonal XC training, and have pretty much written off any consistent training until January - if I'm lucky. So thats another mediocre year results wise.

Yup. Started with covid at beginning of November. Heavy cold at first, then covid hit my lungs for a week. Still not exercising coming on 6 weeks (commute to work on bike - in car currently). It's still sat on upper chest and sinuses - not blocked but inflamed and I keep getting coughing fits. Might go and get decongestant later.

Yes. 2022 has been the grimmest year ever for me. I won't list the details but it's been a bummer of a year.

I wonder if intermittent fasting might revitalise your immune system. It’s becoming a lot more accepted mainstream now. Restrict eating to 8 hours. Coffee (black is allowed during the fast. Pretty easy to do, just leave first meal til noon.

Another 7-8 weeker here, since about the middle of October.
Started in my sinuses.
Clear there, but went to chest a bit.
And stayed there for weeks and weeks. Tiny bits of hard phlegm which take ages and horrendous levels of coughing to shift as they're so small. Got very fed up with it, it was hard work.
Then the coughing stopped a week or so ago, and my nose started again, and my ears filled up. I've been living in a buzzy underwater world.
Then the coughing started back up at the weekend...

... which is the only time I've really actually felt ill through the whole thing.
I am thoroughly sick of it though.

About three weeks in here. On and off. Seems to be about 3 or 4 days of luminous green snot, postnasal drip, coughing and general fatigue before I get about the same period feeling OK before the whole thing kicks off again. Current;y in a snotty, coughy part of the cycle...

Did try one short ride in this time so far (only about 25 flat kilometres), and it wiped me out totally.

Student attendance at school is super low this half term, and I'd say 75% or more of the reasons given by parents are the same symptoms - temperature, headache, sore throat and cough. Unusual for there to be so much correlation in this.

Everything was due to nasal polyps, which completely blocked my nose when laying down.

That's interesting - I wake up bunged up with a mix of snot and blood (when I blow my nose), and apparently I'm snoring more. Were the polyps found by your GP?

I also have a deviated septum which probably doesn't help

Nope, I’m very lucky and rarely get colds. However, only just shook off a cough from catching covid the second time back in March. Must sort my flu jab out.

I’ve never got back to full fitness since having Covid the first time. Brain fog, low energy and seem to catch everything that’s going around. Had a horrible cold and cough last week which has now morphed in to a very sore throat, swollen neck glands and ear ache. Not impressed and very tired of it.

@MCTD Yes, nasal polyps spotted by GP using that little torch thing they use to peak into your ears.

Just to clarify my previous post (should have added this bit in), I was implying that I'd not had a cold because of the Covid restrictions (hand washing, better cleaning practices, less socialising etc). Not that I have a super immune system.

Maybe as I'm about to hit the Christmas social season, I'll now come down with a cold (hope not).

I think we all could do with a week or two of proper rest every now and again (not a stressful family holiday in the sun). Just a week of easy living with good nutritious food, a walk in sun and early nights.

I never realised how stressful driving to work, work itself, rushing about ferrying the kids about and a few rushed exercise sessions a week really are. My Garmin shows it though.

Christmas can be really stressful for some too. We just need to take a step back sometimes.

Hope that everyone who's feeling run down bounces back fitter than ever, ready to tackle the new year.

I just get a slight bunged-up feeling in the morning and in the evening, I just use one of those Vick Micromist things.

I did once have a horrible cold/flu thing, started Boxing Day, finally started to go three months later.

Last December I caught a cold that was very similar to covid. That the newspapers had stories on saying "if you think you had it, you had". I was floored. Literally. Night sweats. Difficulty breathing, massive fatigue. Took a test, negative for covid. No mass spread from my home.

It "damaged" my left lung in that there is frequently some pain in there, and any cold I catch since makes it fill up with phlegm real easy. It's a constant feeling in there.

One year on, and I just had a cold which tried to fill me up. The people where I am don't seem to be able to socially distance, to wash their hands regularly, and I see many frequently pulling their masks down to cough or sneeze, before replacing them nonchantly. The mask must be kept clean! Pinching your nose bridge isn't in their arsenal of stopping sneezes.

Massive covid waves incoming I fear. Some suggesting first by Xmas, second by March. Hard to get any vaccines, and all pharmacies out of cold/fever medication as a mass panic set in amongst people whose behavior outside of their homes could be a bit better to stave off the waves of illness. Noting that flu season here is approximately August to April. Long enough to need two flu vaccines to cover the entire season. Possibly, with having to pay for the vaccines, why historically there's only been a 2% take up.

1.4bil here. Massive lack of proper vaccinations. Wish I could just fast-forward to Apr. And that this lung issue would go away.

Several years ago I had persistent flu-like symptoms. Tested negative for all sorts of causes. I dosed myself up with vitamin c and big glasses of orange juice.
It turned out that it was the orange juice that was causing the problem. If I have too much of it then the next day I have sore throat, aches and pains, fever.
It's easy to dismiss this as fiction, but to be on the safe side I keep away from the stuff until recently, cycling in Mallorca, we stopped at a cafe with one of those big juicers full of fresh oranges. It looked so tempting that I had to have a beautiful glass of freshly squeezed OJ. Man, it tasted good but next day, sore throat, aches and pains, fever, the lot.

I use to be like that many years ago. Key things that I changed...

1. I started taking vit D also along with vit C/zinc everyday.
2. Cut down on alcohol and crap with sugar in it.
3. Drink lots of water.
4. Much better at using hand sanitizer and hygiene, especially since covid began.

Dont get me wrong, I had covid back when it started and I was really ill, it scared the shit out of me at the time, since then my partner has had covid 3 times and no end of colds and bugs, but she works in an office. May be its just luck, but I have always believed that most things are related to diet and lifestyle.

Also go see a GP and get some advice and a blood test, your body may be lacking something.*

*I am not a Dr or an expert in anyway 🙂

Enormous sugar content in orange juice - maybe related to that?

Yip, that's been me since around the end of October. Not felt 100% since then, just a long drawn out thing. Mostly manifested itself with headaches, aches and sore throat. Covid tests have been negative. It hasn't affected my ability to exercise though, so that's a good thing at least.

As mentioned above, I've cut out almost everything with any added sugar. I was feeling exhausted all the time so was eating a load of chocolate bars, flapjack, fizzy drinks etc. I quit the lot cold turkey and after a few days felt much better. Now I'm just consistently tired but I'm not flying up and down on an energy rollercoaster all day long. I was having crushing lows at work where I could hardly keep my eyes open.

Ditched alcohol entirely a few months ago. The length and quality of sleep I'm getting has improved dramatically.

Still got an 18 month old boy at home though so we're catching everything going and generally wiped out from running around after him.

Feels that way just now. Over 2 years without COVID or any other bugs then got COVID and was pretty poorly for a week end of July, another cold in October not too bad but annoying and now I've been knocked out since Friday with a horrendous cold, was sick one night and stomach cramps, tight chest and totally bunged up, tired and dizzy. Soooo bored now.

Just spoken with my Dr. Seems a lot of people are being left with sinus issues which also affects the bodies ability to fight infection. She says I’m suffering from post nasal drip from infected / blocked sinuses.

Que a week of steaming and antibiotics 3 x a day.

I'm finally starting to feel better, been 2.5 months of almost non-stop coughing etc
My ears are working sometimes (they tend to be full in the mornings still, but clear somewhat through the day) and i've hardly coughed for the last 2 or 3 days. Starting to feel a bit more alive and interested in doing more than work, browsing and bed. Went on Zwift for a very gentle ride today - first since the end of September!
Might even get around to fixing the roof rack back on the car and getting out into the woods soon if this really is the light at the end of the tunnel 🙂

The Mrs had it early December, started out as a sickness bug then changed to full on flu like symptoms. She is only just getting over it.
She passed it on to me for Christmas, I started to feel bad on the 20th with the nausea symptoms now is full on flu. It feels like my head is going to explode and then there incessant coughing and sneezing along with the running nose. Apparently this morning she's had enough of the noises I'm making..
Judging by the comments on here, I've got at least another week of it. Ho joy of joys.
I'm dreading getting back on a bike, I haven't ridding since late November because of a shoulder injury so fitness wise I'd lost most of it before contracting this. On top of that I suffer from sciatica from time to time, inactivity seems to set it off. So I'm suffering with that atm too.

Yep, had this exactly for the last 3 or 4 months, stopped exercising as i dont have the energy which is affecting my mental health, not been on the bike for ages as just constantly struggling to feel well.

Not been to docs yet but if it continues then i might get a phone appointment just for a check up.

im proper fed up with it now.
