Cold but sunny here in Northern Spain at the moment.

The sun makes a huge difference to my frame of mind. Today I was trail clearing and I was in shorts and a long sleeve T -shirt. Not too bad for the week before Christmas.

I wish. I've just got off the phone to the boss. Seems no one is going more than arms reach from the our patch this Christmas.

Not as bad as it sounds. I was on standby Christmas day anyway!

My Mother.

She's been going to these places for 4.5mths each year (in rotation) for the last 15 or so years..
Malaga
Marbella
Lanzarote
Gran Canaria
Malta
And this year she's in Córdoba, which is quite a departure for her.

@hammyuk, certainly feeling like we've been getting some winter season this last couple of days. Ice in the shade on the trails this morning!
@spekkie, stop cleaning trails and get that house built 😉

Had three years without a winter once due to work taking me abroad for winter months, back to UK for summer. Was brilliant!

Have friends who moved to Malta and Majorca. One retired to Thailand/Singapore for wintr weather related reasons. Corsica looks relatively toasty at the moment. These are all permanent moves rather than 3 month visits

If it where me I'd be tempted to extend Winter via Alps Dec-Apr and NZ / Patagonia July-Sep.

I spent New Year last in Corralejo in Fuerteventura which temperature wise was perfect.

Just been to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico on the Pacific Coast from 3rd to 17th December and the weather was even better, hot in the day but cool in the evening.

Best tonic going a bit of sun this time of year!

As much as I would like to, there's something about enduring shit riding conditions all winter that makes you a tough stubborn git the rest of the year.

I think that's worth the uk winter slog. (might change that attitude when I'm 50 😀 ).

All depends on budget and timescales, if you have the cash and time I'd suggest here, nice temps, not too hot, suns a bit bitey though (Tasmania). Problem is it's 28hrs each way and probably somewhere between 2-3k to get here.

My folks did a month and it's a nice break from the UK winter, I got out of winter here for a month in 2015, UK summer was just what I needed really.

Portugal or southern Spain should be both accessible and pleasant weather-wise?

My Mother now has a library of apartments that are available to rent for long periods over the winter months. She's met a lot of folk who do exactly the same thing she does, and now tends to meet and stay local to a small group who all organise between them (must be about 25 on this stint)
Doesn't cost that much either, IIRC this appt cost 350€ per mth incl bills. It's a 3 bed, split floor appt in the old town just walking distance to the main Sq so quiet too. Cars in the car port around the corner.

This will be first full winter in the UK for 15 years and I am enjoying the change of seasons. I am sure that I will be over the enjoyment by the middle of January.
It will also be the first Xmas for ages that I am not working in scuba diving and hospitality so we are looking forward to just closing the door and slobbing in front of the telly.
Where ever you are in the World there are + & - points. Eventually the balance tips if you are somewhere long enough.

In 2013 I skipped late winter/spring and went to San Diego early March. Spent the next 2 months cycling to Florida in 80-100f temps. No rain apart from two days in Florida.

Then flew back to a better than average summer and autumn in Scotland. So a year with a 7 month summer from March to Sept.

If I was doing it again with no time limit I'd probably go start of Feb and have some side trips and a few more rest days and still aim to finish in mid May in Florida.
