You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Currently watching the river 150 yds from my house burst it banks, and have spent the day moving stuff upstairs and sand bagging the doors. Praying we get away with it. Forecast says showers, but no further prolonged rain, so fingers crossed.
Luckily no, but good luck!
Very best of luck, seriously. Difficult to think of anything more distressing than having your house flooded out, other than complete destruction. It's the clearing up and replacing wrecked flooring, carpets, electrics, etc. that's so downheartening. My heart goes out to everyone suffering from flooding at the moment.
Again, wellies on but water not quite in the building yet. Bit of water in the shed tho. Had to change a car battery this morning with car sat in 6in of water. Luckily the water wasn't high enough to obscure the spanner I dropped into the engine bay 🙁
I've got a little way to go before it gets to my front door, but it all hinges on it being dry for a few days, anymore rain and I'm stuffed. I've spent a fortune on this house, and got it just right, the thought of doing it all again is a crushing one.
Thanks for the kind words, and fingers crossed for you RichPenny.
@rse, good luck, currently got a mate whose outcome depends on two sucker lorry drivers hoovering up 13000 litres every 40 mins. They've been there since Thursday.
Good luck CB I was in a house that god flooded when that wave came over the top at Chesil Beach. Wouldnt wish it on anybody.
Good luck mate.
An estate just down the road from us is flooded under a couple of feet of water. Feel sorry for them, especially with all the cars slowing down as they pass to have a good gawp.
Take an internal door off or go to B and q get pieces of ply and measure width of all external doors, between brickwork, or cut internal door to this size, apply a load of mastic frame sealant down sides, not silicone as you want get it off, and screw to front of door frame, plenty of sealant at base same must be done for all air bricks and vents.Dont foget patio doors and rear doors as water will flow round the buildings finding its own height.
Plastic storage boxes or inflatable paddling pools also for any small stuff as they float.
Hope you miss the floods though, just horrible for people.
Make sure your insurance stuff and important personal documents and any special photos are upstairs and/or in waterproof packs
Was thinking how utterly depressing it must be to be flooded out and wake up to yet more rain.
Hope it all dries up soon.
Oh and
Good luck CB I was in a house that god flooded
Hope Woppit's not reading this thread 😉
Good luck. Read somewhere that sandbags are only useful for transient flash floods, and even then only partly work, as the flash water passes, by providing a resistant path so the water moves on to somewhere else. If it's a proper flood with standing water then the water will find its way past, and you're better moving stuff to higher ground rather than filling sandbags and thinking that by doing so you've protected yourself.
Hope the above is of no use at all 🙁
Boards silicon sandbags
