Wordpress, running Jupiter Theme with a few extra bits like woocommerce.
One of my team created a new version of a Page. This Page was a menu item and permalink url.
The existing Page was binned and new Page put in its place, with URL of new Page changed to the old URL.
so we had: ltl.org.uk/outdoor-learning-training
he created: ltl.org.uk/outdoor-learning-training-1
he deleted: the old page at ltl.org.uk/outdoor-learning-training
but then removed the -1 at the end of the new page
It has caused some issues, as the menu was clearly built on the Pages we had, and so it all kept re diverting to the new URL with -1 at the end. I have managed to change the menu to a custom URL so it all now goes to the 'correct' old URL of ltl.org.uk/outdoor-learning-training .
If I leave it like this, what are the issues? The rest of our Menu items are all Page, wheras I now have a Custom URL.
It makes no difference to customer or display, but does this have an impact on SEO or similar?
Sounds a bit odd. Have you removed the old page from the menu and added the new one (even though they share the same permalink)?
There'll be no impact on SEO as it stands - the custom URL is irrelevant, is not a redirection (which in itself wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing) and is correctly listed in your sitemap.xml.
