Have a 5c locked to O2. I'm on giffgaff with no O2 contract. Is there a way to unlock it without having to go though O2?
[s]You know GiffGaff sim will work on any O2 contract phone, right?
Same with Tesco sims, as they are both Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) working on O2's network.
The carrier will show as O2, and the default voicemail won't work, but everything else will be ok.[/s]
Nope. You will have to ask O2 nicely. Only the carriers can unlock their phones.
I'm on giffgaff but want to try Three.
Going to o2 is the easiest and cheapest. GG sim will work fine.
It's a no. 02 will need to do it:

[s]Don't gigggaff use O2 anyway?[/s]
Love how the important part of the question comes in a later post!
O2 need to do it, anyone who says they can do it usually 'jailbreak' the phone to bypass it. This can create problems later and potentially 'brick' the device on the next update. Go to O2.
....and potentially 'brick' the device on the next update. Go to O2.
Not to go off topic, but...whut? How does that work then?
Jamie: The next time a software update is available and trys to install it may have issues as the jailbroken software often has bugs. New software tries to install, fails. Phone then has no software and cannot be used. Bricked. As much use as one.

Jail breaking can't unlock either these days. Either a sim tray insert or unlock needed.
O2 unlocking is dead easy and can be done through their website.
O2 won't unlock any iPhone 5s or 5c at the moment unless it's under a full paid up "refresh" Contract.
As per usual, this will likely change in mid April.
Oh, and 3 are sh1te...
