I'm pretty sure my spaniel has got Limber Tail. Her tail is usually wagging at 1000rpm but since getting up this morning its not moved, it seems to just flop about 3inches from her bum. Doesn't look broken and she doesn't mind me touching it so assume its not painful. She does look sorry for herself though.
She was out in the snow for a good few hours on Saturday and was also out for a couple of long walks yesterday. She rolled in a dead salmon so had two showers followed by spells in the garden. All of this seems to fit with common cause of limber tail.
Google vet suggests this is textbook limber tail.
Any thoughts what to do next?
I'm not a vet, but our old dog George had a fantastic tail which he used a rudder/rotor to help him swim/brake and a general club when wandering past ppl or coffee table height items. He managed to 'break' it twice, once so severely we almost had it amputated, both times is came back. So please do seek your own vet advice, but don't be in too much of a rush to have it removed.
Metacam and rest is always what we did with our labs when they get it - usually after swim in cold water or similar. Usually comes back up gradually over about 3 days.
